Start using royal purple and a k & n oil filter, it will give your engine plenty of miles. oil goes for about $7 - 8 bucks the filter is about $13. Bit pricey but well worth it

I don't know if the study is still out there, but there was one reference that ZMax was nothing more that dyed mineral oil.

I've heard good things, I've heard bad things.

I used it, quite successfully, in hydraulic shocks on classic British racecars. It was nice and thick, stiffening the suspension up right where it should be.

I agree with you. I feel the same about the $8 royal purple and amsoil. I'm not by any means saying they are not good oils, I'm saying our trucks will last just as long with Dino oils. Most of us will trade or sell our trucks before it lives its lifetime thus not even seeing the benefit of expensive oils use. I know it's just a personal preference thing, I myself use Mobil 1 sync and have never owned a vehicle for more than 5 yrs. In 14 yrs I've owned 8 cars, 3 used 5 new. Talk about a waste. I am now on my 9th and first domestic 06 Denali. Somebody stop me

Performance Claims For zMax Auto Additives Are Unsubstantiated, FTC Charges

The Federal Trade Commission has filed suit in U. S. District Court seeking to halt false and misleading advertising for zMax auto additives and has asked the court to order refunds to consumers who bought the products. The agency alleges that enhanced performance claims for the product are unsubstantiated, that tests cited to support performance claims actually demonstrated that motor oil treated with zMax produced more than twice as much bearing corrosion than motor oil alone, and that the three different products - an engine additive, a fuel line additive and a transmission additive - were all actually tinted mineral oil. zMax is manufactured by Oil-Chem, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. Speedway, based in Concord, North Carolina, operates NASCAR race tracks in the South and in California, in addition to marketing the zMax products.

If You Have To Use Oil Additives Then You Are Using The Wrong Oil

About 10 years ago or so, a big company did a Million Mile Oil Study in the NYC Cabs.

It basically boiled down to oil is oil, and additives are a waste of money.

Keep in mind technology has changed since then, so who knows.

I am sure a Google search could find the Study results.

I have a sticky lifter in my '69 Mustang's 351 Windsor and I've been procrastinating on pulling off the top end of the engine to replace it.

First, I tried substituting a quart of oil for Slick 50 just for the hell of it and it did absolutely nothing....

On the next oil change I tried Seafoam in the crankcase and it did nothing....

Then after a couple oil changes I substituted a quart of oil for a quart of Lucas Oil Stabilizer and it did WONDERS!!! I definitely recommend Lucas... The lifter is still making a little noise but nowhere NEAR the racket it made before.

Lucas oil stabilizer definetly will thicken your oil up... i put 1 qt in w/ 5 qts of valvoline synpower 5w-30..when i sent my oil sample in to a lab.. it showed up as a 40 weight...so 1qt increased the high temp weight. Plus it is some really sticky stuff and does stay up in the heads longer than just oil.

As far as additives to stay away from... ANYTHING w/ Teflon or PTFE in it is CRAP!!!. It has been known to actually CLOG oil passages and result in bearing failures.

But being in the oil change business... i think if you change your oil regularly it will do just as much good as running some fancy additive or special oil. Same goes with filters... AC delco filters are made by 4 companies...which are the 4 companies that make every other mass produced filter on the market(the same 4 make motorcraft and mopar filters too). Same goes with oil any more there is like 4 or 5 big companies that produce all the motor oil...then they bottle it under there different brands.
