Well, I got my first door ding yesterday. I knew it as soon as I saw the way the guy had parked next to me.

I started this thread to discuss the best ways to prevent and repair door dings.

Prevention:
1. Park a long way away
2. Double Park (being somewhat sarcastic here)
3. ???

Repair:
1. Body shop
2. Mobile dent repair
3. ???

Park far away or take the wife's car. She'll never notice like we do.

Its unfortunate that it happens, but just like bumping shoulders in a crowded area. That person will always be there to make it happen. :Handshake:

I fix dents for a living and still don't know how to avoid them 100%. I always try to park one side next to the cart return as close as I can or in the middle of nowhere.

To get it fix look up Paintless Dent Repair in your area. If you take it to a body shop they are just going to have the local Dent guy fix it and up charge it. If your in NE Ohio let me know I can take care of it for you.

Repair:
1. PDR guy (if you find a good one in KC let me know:))
2. Repair yourself. I've done this with reasonable success with some tools sold at the local auto parts store.

I agree with the paintless dent repair. The first time I had it done I was absolutely amazed at the results. I had no idea they could make a dent disappear like that. As long as the paint isn't broke, they can usually make it look like new. I'm in the same boat, no matter what I do, my drivers door always gets dinged. The last time I had it repaired, the guy did 2 dings for $80. I just got another one, so I guess I'm going back again.

Yeah, don't double park, I'm the ******* that parks next to you and dents your door or makes it impossible for you to get in your car. Your not special, park far away.

This dude parked his truck so close to my camaro the door would only open far enough to stick your foot in. My wife brother had just drank an iced coffee and hawked a lugi on his door handle so big and nasty there would be no way to open door and not get it on the hand. Now I would not do something like this, I thought it was just.

No do NOT park next to old people!! They are THE worst at giving car dings and possible run into your car with there's without even knowing it.

x2 on the old people. They swing theirs doors open and don't even realize they hit something. I can't tell you how many times I've seen old people in the grocery store pull up until they nudge the bumper of the car in front of them, then back up, so they know they are in the spot far enough.

Speaking of this I still haven't gotten 3 huge door dings in my drivers door fixed. It looks like they hit my drivers door with a closed fist. Maybe I cut someone off and it was their way of getting even. Lol.
Anyway it's an eye sore definitely. Anyone know a PDR guy in the Los Angeles area?

I have found my door mouldings are extremely effective. They seem to be in the perfect spot. Unfortunately I seem to get digged on the fenders instead all the time. Bastards!

I'm hoping the 2014 tahoe doors have plastic molding on about the first half of the doors...that's about the only way I think I could avoid the door dings. Didn't they used to make a saturn car that had plastic doors? I thought I remembered an ad where a little kid was hitting the door with his bat.

I'll add parking next to other clean or cared for vehicles. If you find a nice esky backed in or a Mercedes etc, chances are there not going to swing there door into you.

Also how does the paintless door repair work?

X4 ^^^^

Try to park next to well cared for / especially customized GMT's. There is a mutual respect. I know I would try my best to avoid hitting another Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, etc. :Handshake:
