Hi All,

Its been a while since i've logged on to TYF, since I no longer drive the Tahoe Hybrid, but I've fallen into old habits and spent about 2 hours reading posts since logging on today! :)

My wife has been driving the Tahoe for the last six months.

Yesterday, I noticed this pretty big oil spot on the garage floor from the tahoe. Checked the dipstick, oil level is fine, no problems when driving and no DIC messages so far.

According to my wife it did leave a spot like this earlier this week at her work parking lot as well. Its definitely engine oil.

The oil & filter were changed about 3 weeks ago by the dealer, during a routine service appointment. (mobil 1 oil as always)

The truck has 45,000 miles, and doesn't really have any issues so far.

Do these 6.0L engines have oil leak issues?
I've scheduled an appointment with the dealer for this Thursday, and will monitor the oil level, adding more if need be.

Does anyone have experience with oil leaks with NNBS trucks?

Thanks guys

Here's the leak (pretty big leak?),

This might be your problem right there ... I took my HyHoe once for a routine oil change at the dealership and it started leaking oil shortly thereafter. Turns out they didn't screw something in tight enough or something. Must be something with the early hybrids cause I had to go back twice to make sure it was screwed on tight. After that it never leaked again.

Hopefully it's something that simple.

Hi Serge. Yeah I thought about that, its so easy to change the oil on these trucks its sad if these guys can manage to screw it up.

Im thinking all that could be loose is either the filter or the drain plug.

Yeah, these are the same geniuses who pulled the hybrid battery safety lever under the back seat to service the truck, didn't put it all the way back in, I hit a pothole, it popped out, and the truck shut down dead in front of Penn Station in the middle of NYC rush hour traffic. That was a fun day. :emotions34:

Jeez I remember reading that...There was a window in the service waiting area so I saw the guys working on my car. Young guys, didn't look very experienced. was not impressed. to be fair though im not sure if it is their fault yet.

Damn if its a dealer screw up I would be pissed. Especially something as simple as an oil change. Have you looked under the truck at the oil filter too see if it shows any sign of leakage?

Checked under the truck. There is some oil on the filter. Maybe they overtightened the drain plug and cracked something? I wont be able to make it to the dealer before Thursday unfortunately.

Im confused though....the oil was changed about 4 weeks ago, considering the puddles of oil have been pretty big its surprising the oil level is still in the normal range.

These trucks take 6 quarts of oil. I'm pretty sure you haven't wasted more than 1/4 of a quart with that pic you posted.
You probably just have a loose oil filter. Get down under and hand tighten it and see if that solves the issue. I wouldn't wait til thursday if I were you.

Just checked under the truck, the filter is tight. But it might be cross-threaded or something. I cleaned the filter really well with a cloth, then ran the engine for about 10 min I'll check in a little while if oil is on the filter again. Weirdly the filter has a big letter "E" written with a white marker on the bottom of it by someone...not sure what thats supposed to mean.

Or..they put on the new oil filter and the old filter gasket stayed stuck on. This happened to me once. The old oil filter gasket seperated from the filter, and when I put the new oil filter on it would not seal tight. It would seal, but not as it should, making oil leak down the sides.

+1. This is very common.

Thanks guys. :Handshake:

Well it leaked a little more oil over night, the oil level on the dipstick in now towards the lower end of the normal range.

I dropped it off at an independent shop that I trust near my house.(Every dealer in town is closed on Sunday) Told them to check and see if anything is screwed up down there.

Keeping my fingers crossed!:(

+1 this has happened to me once too. I totally forgot about it. Well I hope it's something as small as that.

Got the Tahoe back from the shop. The old filter was leaking. According to the service tech. there was no apparent reason for this other than a faulty oil filter (it was AC Delco Duraguard brand). He said it just wasn't forming a seal. I went ahead and had the oil & filter changed, the new set up is not leaking so far. I will be watching pretty closely for any leaking the next couple of weeks. Hopefully it is taken care of though. :uhoh2:

Also if the reason does indeed end up being a faulty oil filter, is it fair for me to ask the dealership to reimburse me the $75 I spent at the independent shop getting the oil & filter changed to stop the leaking?

Glad you got the truck fixed. Perfect example why I do all the work I can myself. "If you want it done right, do it yourself."

Either that or reimburse you for the shoddy job they did themselves. I'd also make the mechanic come lick my driveway/garage clean, but that's just me.
