Hey JK, how many hours do you think you will have into that project from start to finish?

Well if I wasn't sick, I would've had it all done in about 2-3 days - pulling the old motor, getting the new one ready, and re-install.
As of now, I think I've spent about maybe 8-10 hours between the cam/spring install, installing sensors, pinning the crank pulley, paint, and putting the engine back together. I spent about an hour removing the s/c from the old motor. My brothers pulled the motor while I was sick, which was about 5 hours. They said they had a hard time breaking the block away from the bellhousing.
So, I'd say roughly 14-16 hrs so far?

I wear eyeglasses sometimes but that it. Then again the only thing remotely dangerous I have done is lowering the truck in my garage via stands and a jack.

man i love crate motors, they look so nice and shiny!

Do you have to do any kind of break in process when installing a crate motor with zero miles? I remember when i was into ricers that when we rebuilt my buddys CRX with a JDM ZC, we had to drive it all hilarious before it could be ripped on

It came from a yard and JK stripped it down to build it back with a new cam etc. It sure looks like a crate motor tho...

looking good. when do you think you can turn the key
Thanks bro. Hopefully this weekend. I slacked some today and called it quits early to spend some time with the wife and kids tonight.

The motor came out of a '05 Escalade that was rearended with 34K miles. Engine was really clean on the inside. I replaced all the gaskets and seals, installed a new cam, springs, sensors, oil pump, then cleaned it up and sprayed it with hi-temp engine paint.
With a new engine, you want to take it easy for the first couple hundred miles to let the valvetrain break-in and allow the rings to seat.

Figured I'd go ahead and smooth the edge of the tb while I had it off.
