I assume if my Denali has the useless 3.5mm input plug next to the Nav unit that I probably have the mini-USB input on the back of the head unit? I hope so. That 3.5mm is worthless unless one has an iPod to plug into it. But all my music is on two 32G thumb drives so I need a USB to plug into. I'd be happy to unplug the 3.5mm and install a USB in one of the lighter ports at the bottom of the dash.

So I guess what I'm asking is this- before I pull my dash apart to get the head unit out, would anyone know if the 3.5mm is connected to the late model mini-USB in the back of the head unit? TIA

Looks like it's almost what he needs. That is a 3.5 to USB Male adapter. I think he would need 3.5 to USB FEMALE adapter to plug a thumb drive in.

Exactly.

Thanks, I do appreciate the assistance. What I need is the 3.5mm from your first ebay pic with the female USB from the second pic. I've pretty much exhausted all the tech savvy people and places I know, all of whom say there's no such thing.

I refuse to spend $400-500 for a pair of 32G iPods just to play the music that's already on my two 32G thumbdrives. Just nuts that the Denail is only set up to play Apple products, while a 2010+ finally has a USB input.

My fear is that I'm stuck with XM and the single disc CD (and what high end SUV manufacturer still uses a single disc CD, heck my 2004 BMW X5 had a 6 disc.) OK, I'll stop ranting now, sorry.

You have a single disc? That's weird I thought they were all six disc hmmm. But what about a upgraded head unit with a usb slot? And my second link is a 3.5 with female

I think the '09 year was one of those odd years. Some had the USB in the console and some didn't. And mine was a late year build too- June 2009. Go figure. I may just pull the head unit out to see how the 3.5mm is connected to the head, maybe if I'm lucky it's wired separately into a mini-USB in the back of the head, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks again

The mini USB plug didn't start until 2010. So if you don't have the USB in the console, you won't have the mini USB on the back.
