USB cigarette lighter port

The other day I noticed that the second cigarette lighter port in a Sierra was actually the USB port. Has anyone tried converting one of the front two lighter slots to the USB port instead?

I don't know your goal, but that USB port hooks to the radio and if you hook an iPhone to it, you can play the music on your iPhone through the radio and control the selections with the steering wheel radio controls.

It looks like you can use just the cover part and put in one of these http://www.amazon.com/SANOXY-USB-Fe...&sr=8-2&keywords=female+to+female+usb+adapter. I have that piece from when I was going to try this earlier so I may try it and see if it works.

but like yates said, I'd like to see the back of the port and see how it hooks up. Might be stopping by the dealer tomorrow...

It looks like you can use just the cover part and put in one of these http://www.amazon.com/SANOXY-USB-Fe...&sr=8-2&keywords=female+to+female+usb+adapter. I have that piece from when I was going to try this earlier so I may try it and see if it works.

You would have to have some type of plastic something to hold it in place. Probably a lot cleaner to get the pieces form the dealer.

Duh. may have to glue in the adapter for support but not a big deal

The rectangular piece (20944418) goes in the center console.

The round piece (20944422) goes in the dash



If the $30 factory adapter has the female USB inside the dash (like the pic you posted) I'd rather it look factory...

you remove one of your 500 cig lighters GM gives you and this new housing pops in.. most likely has compression clips on the back side. then use the linked connector that yates shared.. that pope into the round plastic area int he rectangle slot. then you have a couple foot USB extension (radio shack or MONOPRICE.com) adn that goes to your head unit..


i wonder how this will look in an NBS ?? humm
