hey guys!

Okay before you ask, its a 383 build. i need to know what heads i should get... im trying to go for good mileage. yes i know what your going to say... get a honda... dont put a 383 cuz its gunna use more fuel. yea it might use more fuel at higher rpms. but with more torque and more horsepower it wont ned to go high in the rpms. i keep my 350 at about 1800-2500 rpms. so what heads should i use. i read some guys posts on other forums and saw they liked just the stock gm heads or maybe a little bigger head from gm.

so give me some ideas!

So you are claiming at lower RPMS a 383 will use the same amt of fuel as another engine?? Sorry to break it to you but a bigger engine is going to use more fuel all around ...

A 383 with worked Vortec heads will make some nice power.

A 383 with worked Vortec heads will make some nice power.

i have a 385 stroker with stock vortec heads just port and polish, long tube headers k and n filter and full msd set up (dist. wires, 6al) im getting waaayyy better gas milage than i was with the stock 350..probably getting approx 23mpg right now and over 300 hp @ 3500rpm

see thats what im looking for is alot better fuel economy! the one im going to build is rated around 450 ft lbs of torque at 4000 rpm and 425 horsepower at 4500 rpm. i plan on the 383 with maybe some etec heads of just a new set of the vortec heads port and polished. its going to have 6.0 rods more torque with a longer rod. most people just put a 5.7 rod in theres... then its going to have a towing cam with the a new mpfi spider intake and longtubes with a custom 3 inch exhaust out the stock location with a massive tip! its going to be awesome! right not im doing electric fans and the mpfi swap on my 350. motor should be done by the end of the summer! i hope =/

Not to insult you but I was with you until you said you were PROBABLY getting 23mpg ... you don't know for sure so ...

Im going with this 632CI but gonna keep the rpm's below 1500 so im hoping I can get 30mpg:emotions122:

Oh stop, calm down. Im home this week recovering from surgery. Just having a little fun, please dont take it personal. Im just pissed that I cannot better the 14.5 mpg that im getting.

I think he's just playing with you, I'm sure he doesn't insist you putting a 632 in it. Alls good :)

If it was me, wanting a pure street low rpm performer.
Worked Vortec heads with some good 1.8 roller rockers (Talk to Jeff (EPS) before buying rockers, but after heads are flowed. he doesnt like 1.8 rockers.) and a custom ground cam.

Call up these guys, see what they have instock or can do for a pair of vortec's for ya.

Call Jeff at EPS and get a cam made, this guy is GOOD! Tell him what you have, and what you want. Have your heads done and Flowed to beable to tell jeff what they can do, so he can build your cam properly. Trust me, You will NOT be dissapointed!

EPS might even have a set of heads for ya.


Those two shops will set you up bud. will be minimal cost for what you get and you will never regret it.

im only say probably because i varies between 19 and 25 depends on how fast im going so 23 is an avg...i have a hypertech programmer so i know the exact mpg...
