To those who change your own oil on NNBS vehicles

Do you all have an issue with getting the oil filter tight enough?? That thing is so close to the pan and up in that little crevice that I'm having an issue getting it tight enough and not working it's way loose again. Twice now when I've changed my oil within a couple weeks of the change I've had to go back and re-tighten the filter cuz it's started leaking.

Anyone else have this issue? I normally like doing my own oil changes but with the overly difficult filter issue I may not do that with the Burb anymore

Im with u on this one. It is very difficult to tighten it up but luckily i have skinny hands lol so I could work my way. and when I want to take it off I use the technic my dad has used since I can remember. Just tie a belt around it and pull haha

I just use an oil filter wrench to give it that last cinch to keep it snug.

I've tried that too but apparently I can't ge enough of the wrench on it to tighten it adequately. I think I may start using K&N oil filters cuz they have a nut on them so that you can use a socket wrench on them.

lol there easy work in a oil change place like kwik kar helps ! lol there a pain to get off but easy easy

walmart sells a filter "cap wrench" that fits on the end of the filter, think this would help?

Yeah, I think that's what I'm going to resort to rather than the AC Delco that I've always used....

I've got several filter 'cap wrenches' but there is not enough room for them to fit on the filter on the nnbs rigs. The filter is too close to the pan....

I use a filter band style wrench to tighten mine. I put it on by hand at tight as I can and then I tighten it with the wrench .25 to .5 turn and have no problems.

That band style wrench might work well I'll have to try that next time and see what my luck is like

Nnbs = new new body style = 07+ = GMT900

these designations of nnbs, nbs, obs,.... Started long ago in forum world but are quickly becoming obsolete

I will never use NNBS, just seems out of touch to me. All my other car forums use factory chassis codes...not some made up thing.

That's why it's quickly becoming obsolete cuz that's just silly! I'd say just by year range and skip the letter abbreviations

Every truck forum I'm on uses the oobs/obs/nbs/nnbs designation. Not sure what it started, though, but I have a feeling that it is either with FSC or GMFS But like I said, I'm sure it's nearing the end of it's run and we'll just start using year ranges instead.
