The alternator is a good example they put in 13 batteries into this vehicle and not once checked the alternator. I have not checked it yet but I'm probably going to change it soon

The tires are another example. They went through many many tires and yet never changed the shocks or struts Even when the symptoms clearly pointed to the shocks and struts playing a role in the cupping on the tires

Guess idio-diagnostics are a good way to sell batteries and tires ... interesting ... what else can be learned 'in reverse'?

Sometimes fleet mechanics aren't the best.
For batteries and tires that's not too unheard of. They can go through batteries fast depending on how they're using the equipment and they ususlly want as little down time as possible so if that means replacing something that's easy rather then fixing the real problem they'll do that to get it back on the road faster and deal with it the next time it's in for more thorough maintenance.

Won a police Tahoe with 88k miles for a very good price on auction. There was no opportunity to inspect. Once I got the vehicle, it showed 14,143 engine hours. The engine runs well, and fluids look new. Slight fluctuations downward in engine oil pressure when idling. Also some damage to front bumper cover that would probably mean I need to replace or repaint. View attachment 481369Worried about AFM issues as well as damage to the torque converter from the idling. Based on these hours, this thing has imputed mileage of around 350K. Was looking for a reliable vehicle for long term ownership based on my experience with other lower mile/low engine hour PPVs and SSVs we have owned. I can probably make back what I purchased it for in a sale. Should I just sell and move on to a better opportunity for long term ownership?

I bought my Tahoe at government auction in '24 with 152,000 miles. Got a good price and could have flipped for a small profit but as I went through the service records, I found that I had a well maintained example. Turned off the AFM/DOD at the ECM; no signs of failure at 165,000.
What did you end up doing with this one? Where can I find those center caps?

I bought my Tahoe at government auction in '24 with 152,000 miles. Got a good price and could have flipped for a small profit but as I went through the service records, I found that I had a well maintained example. Turned off the AFM/DOD at the ECM; no signs of failure at 165,000.
What did you end up doing with this one? Where can I find those center caps?

I kept it. The transmission was not a donor. It was a factory reman GM transmission. I repainted it and it is doing great. Ran Blackstone tests on the oil and transmission and everything is wearing in just fine.

It didn't come from a PD. It came from a FOIA request for maintenance documents I forced the City of Fort Worth to turn over. If the City took the time to forge the 95 pages of maintenance records in 10 days and colluded with LKQ for the engine and GM for the reman transmission to have them falsely confirm they were installed in my vehicle, we all have bigger fish to fry.

Generally no charge in Texas unless the records are substantial.
