So what are posters recommendations as to the generations?

I have a newer 10th generation 1500 but am thinking I still want another 'Burb.

On both the old & new I did the DOD delete, plus had the dead air suspension replaced with a Strutmasters kit on the older one.

GMT900 or bust!!
Okay or a nice GMT800...
Fine, a restored OBS...
I guess a later K2 is good too...

As long as you do MODEL YEAR research, you won't go wrong.

Well shoot, now I know about the software.

I thought the tranny fixes were rolling and sorted out by 2010?
It's not a fix, just improvements. Hill Start Assist, Trailer Sway Control and some cruise control changes. The 2012s and up also had an improved navigation unit and better hands free directions software.

Side Blind Zone Alert and Heated Steering Wheels were also standard and not options on some trim levels.

Navigation? Hands free? Oh, I see my issue. Starts with L ends with S.
Got 9 seats in that heifer though!

Even your LS ought to have Hill Start Assist and Trailer Sway Control, that's part of the new ABS software.
Comprendo...no hills around here and I don't tow (yet), good to know.
I really didn't realize the options/lack thereof between trims when shopping for the Tahoe. I just wanted a clean, mid miles one. Now I want 8 way power heated seats and adjustable pedals!

In 2023 my son rolled our 2009 Tahoe 3 times, going 70 mph, with me and my two daughters in it. We all walked away with nary a scratch, so I soon after bought another GMT900 - 2013 LT Tahoe.
I'm a big fan of the 900s, delete AFM, do all the preventative maintenance suggested on this site, and you're golden. I haven't had any problems with either 6L80, too.

My 2012 also has the trailer sway control built in with the factory trailer brake controller, so I think that came either in 2012 or sometime prior.

Sorry to hear about your 'burb! :-(

After owning a 2002 Suburban with the 5.3 and then buying my 2012 Yukon XL Denali with the 6.2, I will never own another 5.3 if I can help it. That extra power is addicting. And we don't have a commute so the cost of fuel isn't a significant factor in my case.

I have a 99 and 13 burb. The 99 is better for hauling building supplies (tailgate), better visibility and easier to work on. The 13 is a 3/4 ton so it rides more like a truck, has lots of nice stuff that I don’t use a lot (infotainment, rear heated seats, leather..) but I don’t like the liftgate and it is more a family hauler than a utility vehicle. I wouldnt rule out a nice GMT400, 800 or 900, depending on what’s available near you.

I jumped straight to Escalade ESV, for the prices they are gold mines, and I cant imagine a 5.3L on a 6000lb vehicle... even the 400hp feels like it could use more but blame that on me coming from diesels and wanting torque for days.

My 2019 Yukon XL 5.3L is perfectly adequate for every task I ask of it. Not everyone needs a top fuel dragster motor in their SUV. People forget how pathetically slow vehicles were several decades ago......

if I had to replace mine today it would be a 2020, would not touch anything newer with a 10 foot pole.
That being said I have no plans to dispose of the 2012 either it's a solid ride
