Lol. I only mentioned it because I skipped that step last time and the bushings in the control arms I just took out were a little tore up.

One of you guys mind explaining that one? This is the first I’ve heard of an issue like this. What happens exactly?
I believe this happens when the starter retention spring breaks inside the starter. so instead of the gear retracting when the solenoid is deactivated the gear is loose and slides out hitting the flexplate.

made the 800+ mile weekend road trip without a hitch, for some reason I thought it was 1200 miles
but anyway mpg increased from a previous 10.7 to a whopping 10.8
we were going to be closer to the 50. cal's for the race start but we didn't have time to get back up on the bridge

What headlights are those and do you like them?
Wes has it right. To clarify a little further, when the return spring fails, the resulting sound is like an irregular 'tinking' sound coming from the bellhousing. Since a cracked flex plate can sound similar, I think some people mistake the flex plate for what's actually a failed return spring on the starter drive gear. There are a few YouTube videos about it out there also.
When mine broke it happened on the first startup after having it up on the rack at an alignment shop, so we were able to pull it back into the bay and get it up on the rack for a good listen. While we couldn't isolate it for sure, it seemed to be coming from the starter area, so I changed the starter and it solved the problem. When I hung the old one in the air with the drive gear pointing down, the gear slid to the end of the shaft. It's not supposed to do that.
I love them. Installed on 09/23. They got the nice cut off beam pattern. You can adjust lows and highs with a phillips.

Did another oil change.
Only had 2k miles on this oil but it had the lighter, winter stuff in there and I am heading back to So Cal next week.
I'll be there to finalize putting my house on the market and finish packing up my garage.
Will most likely tow an empty car trailer back up so my cousin can use it to tow his Maserati to the dealer for service.

takes them a little bit to get up to full speed they get up to 80mph, they have been doing these races since 1948
those boats can run in about 6 inches of water

Yup..... fun boats.... I've seen them run many times.... ( During my Unlimited Hydroplane days, the driver's kids would race them )
Was that race, in the Sacramento River?
rogue river up in southern Oregon, they did some other races with bigger faster boats and even the short little bathtub size boats in a obstacle course, we really were there for other reasons, southern Oregon is a different place I spent part of my life growing there always have culture shock when I visit, demographically it is complete flip from here in stockton.

I was just about to ask how you tell the difference in sound versus a cracked flex plate. I know that sound.
And yeah…its definitely not supposed to drop out like that.

Years ago I spent a week in Coos Bay....( A seaside town where time stopped ).... A friend took care of a tree farm..... The property had a newly paved road... It was my road race course.....
ya coos bay is off the beaten path, just like klamath falls. beautiful places though
Washed Cracker yesterday and gave it a good wax job. Shiny clean!. Then today had to drive down a dirt road to the wrecking yard. Just stopped by the car wash and rinsed all the dust off. Shiny clean again!
The reason i went to the wrecking yard is, Cracker does not have paddle lights on the mirrors and I want them as Cracker does not have them but it does have the RPO code DL3 and all the functions, just no lights. So i dunno what's up there.
The ones i got were $20 each. I'll swap a couple parts around and end up with Chrome lower parts with paddle lights and white top's. I just hope the wiring is the same.
