Put a bit of a jack on it. Slide under on drivers side, get comfortable, and look around driver side, aft end of motor. It’s up between two sides you can only see it at an angle. I was able to read without taking a picture. Like I said, get comfortable, it’ll take some snooping around.
I have have two stickers also around the headlight areas. I believe this date is the final assembly date. Mine said Mexico, I assume fianal assembly Mexico?

Right the engine build date wouldn't be by the headlight it's on the driverside head on the rear and can be a real PITA to take a picture of it.

Engine build dates are typically 1-2 months before vehicle build date.

It is hard to take a picture. I couldn’t do it, but with a flashlight I could read it. Mine was K1220072jw4x3162. Car wasn’t sold until late 2022. Engine was built January 7th 2022.

Looks to be built 2022 and 72 day of year if I'm reading tag correctly

I believe your right 007 is correct.

Maybe. I’m not sure if it is day 007, so 7, or 0072, so day 72. ‍Either way, seeing Vlad’s stock engine replacement condition, not really happy it sat so long.

It is my understanding that GM will not take a trade in because then they can’t sell them due to the stop sale. So we’re stuck even if we want to get rid of the car. A lot of people have a very expensive hunk of metal with payments on that hunk of metal they shouldn’t drive due to safety.

I can understand dealers not wanting to take them but GM should do something about that. You sell people a vehicle at such high prices with a ticking time bomb engine that stops in traffic, there are reports here and other places how it can take months to get the engine replaced and some have that one go too so people can't get rid of them even if they wanted to. I'd never be buying a GM again.

So you only had 2500 miles on the oil you sent in? Would be real surprised if they find anything bad at that mileage.
That's exactly what I am hoping as well. I use the service on my race engines. Engines that often only have a few hours on them.
You can see component failure long before anything is visible in the oil. It's a great tool.

You can't, that's a pity. I cut the filters every time, everything was clean for me, 2000 km before the death of the engine I changed the oil. And the engine died at a mileage of 123 thousand km

This is one of the most confusing stupid situations Ive ever seen!
Why can’t they just put month, date and year like every other product, document or statement that has the date as an important part of it.

Also this is a “safety recall” and GM is basically saying your truck is not safe to drive without using those exact words. WTF?

If the customer is upset and confused and asks “What am I supposed to do now?”
how can these dealers just say “wait for the letter” or “we don’t know anything about this situation yet” and expect the customer to just say
“ok, thanks for that”

Even if you have to say it several times a day, there should be at least a little bit of empathy for the customer. I used to think they had some kind of customer satisfaction strategies. Boy was I wrong!

Manufacturers typically use Julian dates, this is what the date code is on the engine tag. The Julian date is preceded by a letter and then a number, then the Julian date is the next 5 numbers starting with the 2 digit year and then the day number for the calendar year. Sometimes Julian dates may have a Shift Code before of after the Julian date and sometimes if a build date date group there may even be a Plant/Factory designator as well.

GM does have pretty good records based on my read. While the recall pretty much states it includes the 2024 models, they indicate the engine build date is really the governing factor.

My 2024 VIN has not been recalled, I can confirmed I checked by engine build date a while ago and the engine build date is July 15, 2024 so the engine is outside of the "problem" window.

My vehicle build month is 8/2024 so I assume the engines take approximately 2-4 weeks after the build date to be installed in a vehicle. Not months. So if you have a July 2024 build date, you may be lucky to have an engine build after July 1, 2024. If your July 2024 build vehicle is not been recalled, you are hopefully safe. But only real way to confirm is check the tag on the rear of the driver side cylinder head. I you have a Z71/ZR2 or an AT4 you probably have a skid plate blocking an easy view. If you have a borescope camera you might be able to use this to read the tag rather than removing a skid plate?

if you VIN has not been recalled, there is a pretty good chance your engine was built outside the "problem" window based on my situation.

I’m looking at Washington state lemon law, probably pissing in the wind. My claim will be serious safety defect. It has been diagnosed as a serious safety defect, their words in the recall notice. It’s too dangerous to drive according to lots of experts. 70mph, rush hour, manual brakes, manual steering, trying to merge to the shoulder if there even is one, city freeways don’t. I’m waiting for them to fix it, tik tok. Once out of service for 30 days it’s a lemon. First step is asking gm to repurchase. Gotta start somewhere?

It truly isn’t safe. If you are in the far left passing lane on a 3 or 4 lane highway and the engine goes, it would be so dangerous to have to get to the right side shoulder. God forbid you get stuck on the left side by a barrier. I’d be scared to death the broken down car would be smashed into killing you and your family. Or best case, you’d have to run across 3 or 4 lanes of highway traffic with your kids to safely get to the right side shoulder. I believe you lose power brake assist and steering as well if the engine isn’t driving your belts.

The brakes and steering wheel work, but if it happens at night like mine, then you will find yourself without a headlight

Yes I will put 0-40 in your truck but YOU are gonna PAY for it out of YOUR pocket. The fix has not been made official yet therefore GM is NOT paying for your oil change since you have heard 0-40 is what they are going to and want to jump the gun and get it done before its official.
So you don’t think they are eventually going to move to 0W40 in all of these engines? How long am I supposed to wait to get the oil changed? It’s already a little over due and with this issue I don’t want to take any chances with the oil.

Have you started the process of a buy back? I paid over 90k for this thing and at this point it’s not worth anything. It’s likely that no dealer will take it as a trade if they do I will take a bath on it. I’d love to get out of this thing ASAP.
