No 'ACC' equivalent in ignition?

My truck, '07 Escalade, has no 'acc' position for the key. I assume this is by design, and not a defect; but I'm checking with y'all, to be sure.

There used to be an 'acc' selection, immediately CCW of the 'off' position on GM cars and trucks. It was perfect for listening to the stereo while waiting for someone. Now, the stereo shuts itself off after a while [10 minutes?].

I like the old way better. Any ideas?

You just turn the key one Click forward

By 'forward', do you mean 'clock-wise'? That was/is 'on', which powered-up all normal systems, before and after the engine was started.

Are you saying 'acc' is now included in 'on'?

I remember that part of the reason for using 'acc' instead of 'on' was to prevent burning the points; but the 'acc' position was still there long after points were history.

Totally forgot about that old reverse ACC position!

I just checked my '12 to make sure..
But like Doub said, it's one forward click for ACC, before the RUN position where your dash lights up.

yes clockwise, one click, you should see the shift indicator light up and radio turn on, no other dash lights until the 2nd click which is "run", next click is start.

I went out today and explored more carefully.

I had never noticed the position you're talking about, as a distinct position. I think I subconsciously assumed it was just a bit of slop in the ignition switch as I switched the key from 'off/lock' to 'on'.

The reason for this thread was that this new and improved 'acc' times out after some time [10-15 minutes?] and shuts the stereo off. I was hoping for a solution to that.

It's just an effort to save your battery and enable the engine to start. Electronics these days take a lot of juice.

Retained accessory power, I believe it's 10 minutes. Same with headlights turning off I believe..

The radio has Batt power connected all the time, but the BCM? sends a signal to turn it off I believe..
So when you hit the power button, it sends a signal to the BCM that then sends a signal back to the radio to turn on.. makes perfect sense!

You could wire up this device I have.. a PAC-LAN29ON, discontinued.. https://catalog.pac-audio.com/catalog/specialty-items/lan29on
I believe it's to simulate the GMLAN signal to turn the radio on or off, otherwise the radio won't turn on by itself! (From what I read, have not tested)

Perhaps you can wire a switch to the GMLAN signal wire and disconnect it after turning on?
BUT, when you actually want to turn it off.. it may not work (Short of cycling your key back on and off maybe?)
Or it may not work at all.. Or go aftermarket stereo..

Like all the electronics in our trucks, way too much work for nothing!
Don't think I'll get anything newer when it's already this ridiculous in '07...

Man, thanks, but I don't want to dive that deep into it. I used to wire my stereos to always be powered. It wasn't that tough to turn them off when I was done using them.

The key cycling is what I do now, and I suppose the truck will just keep on trying to nanny me. I'm with you though, no new trucks. If I had safer parking, I'd still be driving something with chrome bumpers and no built-in nannies.

The 10 minute timer is only active when the key is off and the driver door hasn't been opened. On the first click (accessory) the radio will run as long as the key is in that position.
