I have a 2000 Tahoe that has had a lot of work done on it. Replaced Brake lines, ABS pump. Installed new starter, new fuel pump, ignition switch, bled and refilled refrigerant, changed transmission fluid and installed new trans filter. Was at the After sitting for a week and a half because the driver’s door handle broke off. After replacing it, I drove into town and was waiting in line at the drive up window to get my wife’s prescription. After about 15 minutes waiting while the engine idled, I started hearing a loud pulsating wining noise.
Thinking it was the radio, I shut the engine off and the noise disappeared. When I turned the engine back on, there was no noise for about 5 minutes, then, as the noise started up again, I shut the engine off. Not wanting to get stuck in the window bay, I pulled around to the parking lot, shut the engine off, and went inside. When I came out, started the engine, there was no noise. Driving home for 4 miles, there was no noise.
I’m wondering if it is a pulley or something. AC was off and made no noise when I turned it on. Power steering pump was replaced in 2018 and has only about 15,000 miles on it.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what could be the source of your issue. I suggest that if/when the noise happens again, record it on your phone and post it to YouTube and link it to this thread. This way, we can better understand the noise itself, and maybe one of our Members will recognize it.

If it is a rotational pulsating whine it can only be so many things. When it starts again pop the hood and see if you can determine where it is and record the sound. Belt pulleys are typical.
