Who here has had their rigs painted? How much did you pay? My Denali's beautiful Redfire Metallic paint is fading pretty badly on the hood and roof. Kind of embarrassed to see it in this state. I'm figuring it needs a full respray. Don't make fun of me, but I'm looking for Maaco budget territory.

Following! How much, if any, prep, would you be willing to do beforehand?

Had the forward portion of the roof and hood painted on the wife's truck out of pocket it was about $3k on her older one that was the red that fades for the hood alone I was quoted $1k. Ended up finding a good one in the junkyard swapped it over and sold it. If you can find a better deal go for it. Doing the whole truck is a lot more work

Yikes... that much for just the roof and hood?? I was figuring $3k for everything. Ouch. Wanted to do the whole truck so it looked even and matched. I've been on the lookout for a good condition hood for years. Never been able to find a matching one in good shape. Either it's faded too or it's the wrong red.

Ya the hood I found was not a 100% match but it was pretty darn close you had to look at it hard to tell the difference. A lot of prep work has to be done for a good paint job, you could prep it yourself and save some labor, basically all the trim has to come off and sand to bare metal

Four years ago I had my new bumper cover painted for $500 and I brought to them. It's going to cost about $1000 to repaint my hood and double that for the roof next year.

To "properly" paint the whole truck it would cost about $30K.

Don't paint the whole car with Maaco garbage. Modern paint and painters can blend the new with the old very well. In my area we have a dealership and a private company that does many of the Geico claims in the area and both do excellent work.

Hell... at these prices I'm thinking about just taking the hood off and doing it myself rattle-can style. I can't afford much beyond $3k.

30k for a paint job!? No wonder these new rigs are approaching 100k regularly. I’d plastidip the whole thing before spending 30k lol :)

Body shop labor is barely keeping up with the times. Good men are hard to come by, especially those who will work for less than they are worth.

About two years ago my daughter backed into a tree in my new to me 2013 pickup. That cost almost $6,000 to repair and that dealership did a pretty poor job. They blended the new with the old paint well, but it had runs at the bottom and the clear is lifting now along the bottom. That's not the same dealer that did my bumper.

It costs money to drive a nice car guys. Well, the way I look at it, my money is not mine, it's the Lord's and I'm the steward of what he gives me so I try to spend it wisely.

Times have changed big time. I think Maaco quoted me around 3k to paint my entire Camry about 10 years ago.

My wife had a friend who worked at maaco paint her RSX for like 1200. Well let’s just say after a year it looked worse than the original paint that she was trying to hide.

Back in the 80s I remember tv commercials for Earl Shive, "I'll paint any car for $99.95"

Well, them paint jobs were what we called "20 footers" because it looked fine from 20 feet, but any closer you can see how crappy and rough the edges were where they tapped all the trim off, etc.

The '33 hotrod was painted back around 2011 and was the bare body with no windows or interior and trim attached. The shop wanted $16k to do it all, but my father-in-law and I wanted to help and let us do the prep and blocking, etc and that reduced the cost to $11k. I hate bodywork and paint btw, but liked the experience to get to do it.

The Acadia just had paint and body work done at the dealership and they actually R&R'd (remove/reinstall) trim/light housings/glass/etc before painting an area.

So basically a good paint job will usually cost much more do to the labor and prep work.
