I'm stumped and need some direction/ help. I realize similar threads exist but haven't pinpointed the details.

The driver heated/ cooled seat stopped working in the middle of a trip last week. Lights for cooled/ heated back/ heated back + seat function normally. When I press any of them I hear the relay click and then it will click again in 5-30 seconds. If I try to press it again, I don't hear the relay.

After searching I looked at the module under the passenger seat for burning/ bulging - it comes apart with ease and no sign of trouble.

Fuse is good.

Pulled the rear cover off of the seat and cleaned the blower fan out with compressed air. Put the blower back in and started the engine and pressed the heated back + seat. Relay clicked and fan started up for a few seconds. Relay clicked off shortly after.

I'm a bit confused from what I've read here and elsewhere. Does the blower fan (what I believe is a TED) control the heat and cooling or are there separate heating elements in the R86 configuration?

My initial plan was to find replacement blowers (I believe there is one on the seat back and one under the chair - correct me if I'm wrong) and just replace both. I don't have a bi-directional tool and just want to fix the issue before the cold sets in.

If all I need are the 2 blowers can someone point me to the correct part numbers? I'm having a heck of a time trying to correctly identify those even after looking at the label and seeing it was manufactured by Amerigon. I'm only seeing used items and would prefer to not gamble with those.

Thanks for any direction offered!

For heated & cooled seats it’s often best to let a dealership take a crack at it just to get the diagnosis. I read that if the actuators for the dash vents are out it won’t complete it’s cycle to allow start up.

A Tech-2 will tell you what's wrong in moments, without throwing parts at it. If you have an IPhone, the Car Scanner app in the Apple Store can read BCM codes with an OBDII adapter, at least we see them with a Foseal OBDII adapter.

Once you have the codes, you can get access to the shop manual at AllDataDIY and run through the troubleshooting guide.

Do I need the pro version of Car Scanner to pull BCM? I believe my bluetooth OBDII is ELM327 compatible which leads me to believe I should see the data. With the free version I didn't see any fault codes or other details that would point to the problem. Thanks!

Not 100% sure as my daughter uses the IPhone.

I should have caught this earlier that the op had an 2011 chassis. GM yanked the a/c (TED) component after 2010 and adopted ventalated vs refrigerated seats.

Not sure if there’s a module under the seats like the 07-10 have. It’s a less complicated system but haven’t seen a write up on a repair or disassembly yet. It took me years to discover they quietly discontinued the TED (cooling) module in 2011.

On the good side diagnosis and repairs will be easier.

Just tickling this post. My 2011 Yukon Denali driver’s seat cooler decided summer was a great time to stop working. Pulled the whole seat out, the mechanicals look very different than what I have seen others post. When I press the buttons on the door each light turns on appropriately and I think I hear the relay click, once. All of the wire harnesses look good and nothing is burned or melted. Is it possible to diagnose the module? Anything else to check?

Thanks Michael, learned something new today!

Which version would you say keeps your bum cooler?

I've been tossing the idea around of buying a wreck and salvaging the heated/cooled seats and 6.2 engine for mine someday. Had no idea there were two styles.

By far the TED / early version works best. It’s a bizarre feeling having the cool air hit your back, bum & legs when the truck is hot.

BT Dieselworks now has a SW package for adding cooled seats but not sure if he has the NNBS included yet.

I love this vehicle but sometimes the engineering leaves a lot to be desired! For anyone experiencing heated/cooled driver’s seat issues in a 2011, the actual control module that controls both front seats is under the passenger seat. My driver’s side heat/cool buttons on the door lit up but nothing worked. I was incorrect in my ‘assumption’ that each seat had their own module. I was unable to find the module by just feeling around so I pulled the seat out. It needed a good cleaning and it was nice to vacuum under the seat but there was no heat/cool module and all wires and motors are intact. I found a link on here to a post from the Avalanche forum, I can’t find it this morning to give credit where credit is due, but that was the first time I learned that there is only one module and it controls both seats. I pulled the passenger seat out, tried to disconnect the harness (it was stuck, telltale sign of a melted pin) and eureka found my problem. Unfortunately finding the replacement connector has been challenging.

Double check that it will work with your model year. Looks like this doesn't cover a very wide range of Tahoe/ Yukon models. My original post was on a 2011.
