Thanks, I’ll take a look at the pitman / idler. Seems pretty clean as well..I'd make sure your pitman arm still has a nut on it. That is a pretty big nut so couldn't be too common also the yellow mark kinda makes me think steering related.

Pitman / idler are good. I spent a few minutes underneath, scouring, looking for anything, and couldn’t find any issues. This has me wondering wth..Thanks, I’ll take a look at the pitman / idler. Seems pretty clean as well..
That noise you heard may have been the alternator fan scrubbing on the case.Pitman / idler are good. I spent a few minutes underneath, scouring, looking for anything, and couldn’t find any issues. This has me wondering wth..
Nailed it!!That noise you heard may have been the alternator fan scrubbing on the case.
Was a pain to torque with limited tools, so the old Milwaukee 2767-20 took care of it on the #2 torque setting. Prior to that, the belt wasn’t holding quite snug enough to torque it all the way.Nailed it!!
Hopefully in a spectacular fashion…?Killed the g80 in the suburban this morning. Hopefully have pics this evening if I have time to rip into it
when a locker goes bad it just dont lock no more. mine wore out in a 14 bolt. if she went crunch then the gears got eaten up...that would be spectacular. ate up a rear in my 80 power wagon. it locked up almost put me through the windshield. opened the cover up and it was just a pile of chunks laying on the bottom of the diff......like some kid said in the little rascals "remarkable" lolHopefully in a spectacular fashion…?
I was more implying that there was copious tire smoke involved.when a locker goes bad it just dont lock no more. mine wore out in a 14 bolt. if she went crunch then the gears got eaten up...that would be spectacular. ate up a rear in my 80 power wagon. it locked up almost put me through the windshield. opened the cover up and it was just a pile of chunks laying on the bottom of the diff......like some kid said in the little rascals "remarkable" lol
Where did you end the cable coming from the battery to ground? I just got my Mechman 370 alternator and 1/0 OFC big 3 upgrade kit, looking to get this wired up and done for the weekend.Big 3 upgrade and new battery posts todayView attachment 394902
Nothing spectacular it popped and quit pulling. Driveshaft spinning but no output coming outHopefully in a spectacular fashion…?
and not crunchy so it's kinda odd to me for one to break like thisSame exact thing happened to my Camaro. Mechanic who was an ex racer said he'd never seen gears so obliterated before. I was proud.when a locker goes bad it just dont lock no more. mine wore out in a 14 bolt. if she went crunch then the gears got eaten up...that would be spectacular. ate up a rear in my 80 power wagon. it locked up almost put me through the windshield. opened the cover up and it was just a pile of chunks laying on the bottom of the diff......like some kid said in the little rascals "remarkable" lol
Same thing happened to my 03 this past summer. Too many burnouts I guess. Just replaced the complete rear.Nothing spectacular it popped and quit pulling. Driveshaft spinning but no output coming outand not crunchy so it's kinda odd to me for one to break like this
Hindsight is always 20/20 isn’t it?I shoulda rounded up some boards for under these engine hoist wheels. Lol

i know why mine blew up. it got ran dry. i was out wheeling and this one hill i suppose they just didnt want ppl to go up or down it no more, so they piled huge rocks the whole hill. so we all went down it lol i had a plow mount and got hung up bad on a 45º and seen it leaking out the pinion. on the way home it was ringing. lasted a week or so longer then it gave up life. 5 days later i drove off the gmc lot with a brand new 97 gmc 3500 4x4. it just forced the purchase to happen sooner then i wanted to.Same exact thing happened to my Camaro. Mechanic who was an ex racer said he'd never seen gears so obliterated before. I was proud.
sad part is crooks can rip it out of park and push it away.Today I wired a totally stealth starter relay interrupt and hooked it to a stealth switch inside the cab. I can only show the engine bay pic for security reasonsbut you won’t see anything since the new wiring is inside the factory loom. Aha! Now I’ll probably forget to hold down the interrupt switch when I try to start my truck and be like wtf.
