I need to replace the rear shocks on my 15 Yukon XL Denali. I'm looking at the Arnott 3066 and 3429. The only difference I can see is the 3066 is mono-tube and the 3429 is twin-tube. Has anyone used the 3429? What are the factory rear shocks, twin or mono? Or does the magneride even fall within those two categories?

Good question. Arnott's website shows the 3429 for GM "w/magnaride".

Did you see the price of the GM rear shocks? $393 on RockAuto. Good to see they are back in stock but DANG!

Ya, I see they are both for magneride, which I have and don't want anymore. I believe they both also have the sensor built in to stop the Service Suspension error message. I'm just not sure on any other difference. I emailed Arnott and their response was not informative at all. Yes, the $393 is crazy for something that does not last very long!

I believe the more expensive one uses an Eibach dampener and the other one does not.

I think you're right. Things may have changed, but about 10 years ago I worked in the auto manufacturing industry and we had so many problems with Eibach struts/shocks. About 25% would arrive with blown out seals. Again, that was a while ago, but I'm leaning towards the AS3429. They are not Eibach brand as far as I'm aware and they cost less.

Got the 3429’s in the mail. I’ll try and get them installed this weekend and report back.

I’ve since traded it in for a 2021 but the short time I had it with the Arnotts I thought it was great. Rode smoother but my oem shocks were shot for quite a while.

I just put the AS 3066's in the rear of my 2017 yukon denali. It is now sitting 1-2 inches higher in the rear then with the old mag rides.

I went to my mechanic and we reset the suspension trim height with the scanner and to no avail. Still about 1 to 2 inches higher in the rear.

I wonder if my rear right height sensors are bad? Any one experience this?

This is what I get for poking fun at Ford.... LOL

Was there any visible height differences when compared to stock?

I thought so at first, but I went out and compared my wifes 2016 esky to the yukon and they sit the same and you can see the same gaps. I think the issue is the lower stance of the front Arnott strut assemblies vs the stock strut assemblies.. I have read quite a few complaints about the SK-3354's sitting lower then stock. What threw me off is that I installed the 1.5 inch front spacer in the front right off the bat! They (Arnott) now offer a SK-4261 that has the SAME exact coil spring and strut (confirmed with arnott) , BUT has a built in 1" spacer. They claim this strut is for Serrias and Yukon XL, Burbs, and ESVs. Frankly- I think that's what I should have used off the bat with my yukon denali non XL. Arnot is a good company buy are VERY OE oriented. They dont understand or read the issues that us car guys have on these forums. Our trucks sit too low in the front from the factory. Most of us either lower the rear or raise the front as a result based on personal preference.

Well, crazy news. The rear shock height was basically reset to where it should have been based on the old units not holding air as will as they should have.

Arnott has confirmed to me that their website is INCORRECT and needs to be updated in regard to SK-3354 vs SK-4261. Arnott used to recommend SK-3354 for 2WD Yukon, T-Hoe, Burb, Esky and small wheelbase 4wd of the same. The SK-4261 was only for XL versions of eth SUV and the corresponding 1500 series pickup trucks. Now they recommend SK-4261 for everything save 2WD short wheelbase SUVs. Just to clarify a bit more.. the SK-4261 is the SAME strut assembly (same eibach monotube shock and spring / spring rate) as the 3354 except it has a 1 inch poly coil spacer directly under the spring in the strut assembly. Im going to use a small 1 inch suspension-maxx spacer on the bottom and will have a nice 2"level without having a huge 2" spacer above or below the strut. BTW- Arnott sent me the new assembly's and sent me return labeling to ship the old struts back to them in! Good company. Marvin in tech at Arnott is A+ to deal with.

Basically, to sum this all up for anyone that is interested or has same situation, my truck had factory springs and factory magneride shock on all 4 corners with a 1.5 suspension-maxx level in the front (which as we all know is not completely level still has rake). It sat as it should with a 1.5 kit. After replacing the front struts and rear shocks with the aforementioned units, the rake increased due to A. wrong front struts and B. correctly working rear air shocks.

Ill post some pics before and after when I get around to swapping everything out.

FWIW- the Arnotts ride great and offer a very resonably comfortable and controlled ride. I will second what Thrust said about a properly functioning magnaride being better. It is...BUT... its alos a PITA and they dont last and are $$$!!

PS- this all makes sense given the gross weights of our vehicles
Yukon = 5,379-5,626 lbs. weight is 2wd - 4wd obviously
Yukon XL= 5665-5965 (porky pig) 2wd-4wd obviously
Sierra 1500 = 5,182 -5,509lbs weight is 2wd-4wd obviously
The SUV + 4wd versions of either are heavier and therefore require spacers if you want to keep that plush ride. I think that is why they (Arnott) dont just make a higher spring rate (stiffer / stronger spring) version for the heavier units. It would make the ride to harsh for the average joe. They are trying to appeal to the mases with a comfortable solution to magneride.
