So, I have a 2009 Yukon hybrid 4x4. She has 235k miles and the transmission seems to have given up. I put a newer motor in about 20k miles ago, as the lifters chewed up and trashed the motor. But I figured it lived a good life!

Anyhow, was driving a couple weeks back and got a few really hard chugs- not the typical lurches- but violent banging chugs. We were on the highway so I tried to maintain speed but ended up getting into some traffic, and as the truck shifted into 3rd, it wouldn’t go back to 4th, then got to 2nd and wouldn’t go up to 3rd… etc. when I finally got home, she went into park and there is no more movement. No gears or modes work.

That being said, tracking down the 09 version for 4x4 seems to be next to impossible. I see several of the 10-13 trans available but I am unaware of what would need to be done to make that newer model work in my 09… if anything? Does anyone know what’s actually different and can it be done?

Thank you all for your help- I appreciate it!

So you mean having them send it out for a rebuild? Or buying a remanufactured one from the dealer? I haven’t been able to track down any remans either

If it’s still available, the dealer will sell a reman and take yours for a core. A dealer may be your only option due to the high voltage systems. Not many independents are working on hybrids and EV’s yet at least as far as service to the actual high voltage systems that I’m aware.

For the price and the miles.. I would not touch it..

They are available from GM... Part # 19370271
7000 bucks, plus 3000 core

So I called the dealer and they said “oh yea, we have those”. Only to find out the do NOT have them and gm stopped doing the remans.

Is there a particular harness to make a newer model (10-13) work in the 09 truck? They are much cheaper but I’m not sure if it is possible to do.

I found an 09 transmission with 120k on it but it’s 3800 bones. Where the 10-13 are like 1500.

Dealer might tell you they dont have them, but GM Parts shows they ship them from the warehouse.

I would check another dealer, and see whats up. GMC, Cadillac, Chevy.

Or email [email protected] And see if they can provide more info about that specific part. My local dealers are putting a markup on them of about 13%.

So if GMPartsDirect.com can ship you one, it would save 1000 bucks. But shipping might make it more expensive. I dont know. not sure how core charges work thru a online parts service.
