Right, and i agree with the weight issue. But depending on his plans i think being under 450hp a good posi would hold up. Now if was dropping a higher stall converter in it i would immediately go for the 9.5

I agree with the "good posi" and reckon there's more than one way to skin that cat. I am going the 9.5 route and have one sitting on my work bench.

Welcome to the forum Junior from Georgia Bulldog country. Location is everything, especially real estate. LKQ/Salvage/Used or junk yard, $$$ is all over the place, be careful.

The 9.5 is a great upgrade, but my opinion is the 8.5/8.6 is plenty strong for stock to mild power levels. The govloc (g80) is the weak link. Get a good quality posi unit... trutrac, auburn spring type etc, and you'll be fine. I know there is a significant weight difference, but i have a 8.5 in my nova making 400ish at the crank and a 2400 stall converter pushing through a all stock 8.5 with a mini spool and havent hurt it in 10 years track or 8000 street miles.

I never weighed the 8.6 vs the 9.5 but I did move both axles by myself many times and don't think there's more than a 100lb difference, probably much less.

LKQ in Fort Myers had two of them and dropped the price to under $300 and couldn't resist. Yep, they still have one for $286.85. If I had the room I'd pick up a spare!

In this size, I figure the G80 will be plenty strong for my needs.

There's quite a few of them across America for less than $300.

That's a ridiculously good deal! I paid around $400-450 for 130k miles IIRC. $300 for a near bulletproof axle is so much cheaper and easier than getting a posi installed into a 10b.

If you get the chance weigh the 14b vs 10b just curious.

It is and I was thinking of weighing the axles but not sure how to do it at home. Our bathroom scale is glass! Definitely going to weigh the truck again on the CAT Scales afterwards.

Go to LKQOnline and look for 14-Bolt Saginaw 9.5" axles (RPO AXN) in RWD Escalades and Denalis (2007-2014), they all have 3.42 gears and G80. Just bought one for $289 plus tax but every area is different. LKQ even warrants it. So you have to tell them yours has a 9.5 with 3.42 gears.

We'll eventually install 3.73s in ours.

Did you search "14-Bolt Saginaw 9.5" at LKQOnline or did you search by vehicle? I can't come up with the axle you mentioned on their site. Thanks for the help finding how you searched and found it.

I was initially searching 2006 Escalade 2wd's and there was only 1 in Texas that was about double the cost of yours. I tried searching 2005, but they don't have the AXN as a possible listing for 05, which is incorrect. I've seen one in an 05 also. Once I changed to 2007+ as you searched, I then found a few more and for the same lower price that you found. It's a bit perplexing that they have the earlier one priced significantly higher than the 07+, but it could just be a supply issue I suppose.
