I would push the dealer to make it right or take the vehicle elsewhere.

Contact GM directly with your issue and let them know that it is an ongoing issue that was not fixed properly.

As an update GM didn't do squat, other than contact the dealership and buy whatever story they told them.
Then when I got annoyed, they offered me a $100 coupon that I could apply to the bill the dealership expects me to pay.
In the mean time the dealer said my ESV was ready, and if I didn't come in and exchange the loaner for my ESV, they were going to start charging me $150 per day for their loaner.

You should have never left it with that dealer to start with. You have no recourse now. Oh, and look that loaner over REAL GOOD before you return it. My daughter returned a loaner and they claimed it had a scratch on the rear bumper that wasn’t there when she got it, and they forced a claim on her insurance company for $1000 (which they supposedly repainted in their body shop) which in turn caused her insurance to go up.

Well the latest tale of this story is that after I had to pay a portion of the valve job, I picked it up and within a couple of days of city driving short distances, my full tank of premium was down to empty, and the check engine light has come back on. It is not running as rough, but still seems to hesitate and is not as rock solid as when I originally brought it to them.
The supposed collapsed lifter was not noticeable, and ever since they did that job (but failed to see the carbon buildup on the valves) it has run much worse.
At this point I have lost faith in the integrity of this vehicle, and went from really enjoying it, to not trusting I can go on a trip outside of my city and not worry about having a problem.

I talked to a friend who was a GM of a car dealership years ago, and he said to requested a special dispensation from Cadillac/GM to have my warranty extended to 100K for the drive train. However my issue was not the mileage running out (currently 68K) but the time ran out last year in between the 3rd & 4th return for the same problem. Hence they "did me a favor on the GM calculator only having to pay 40%" of the valve job.

I really don't want the hassle, time and expense of taking them to court, as I am not a litigious guy. Additionally, even if I were to prevail, all I'd win is my money back and them having to continue to fix my engine for free. Or at least that is all I assume, as punitive damages are not common in small claims court.
Heck I'd gladly just swap it out for another SUV, but I doubt the dealer will entertain such a remedy.
Aside from being angry, what is worse is not really knowing what to do at this point.

Take it back. You’ve spent money and it still isn’t fixed. Call customer care again and raise cain. Now that it isn’t fixed you might be able to get the warranty extension.

My 99 Tahoe ate gas like that and it turned out the oxygen sensor was dirty. My mechanic took it off and cleaned it with solvent and it cleared the problem up. The price for a new sensor was around $800 if my memory serves me right. That's way out of my wheelhouse, thus I had him try alternate means. Fortunately, in my case, it worked.

Also, out here we had a local TV station that had a consumer segment called "Action Line" where you could call in and have a consumer advocate look into your problem. They would televise your case on TV and it usually worked. Businesses hate bad press or advertisements. I told them about my problem with the company that I bought my solar panels from. I was getting no where...Just lies & BS. Within a couple of days they were on my roof replacing the panels for FREE. I haven't had a problem with the panels since. And needless to say the company went out of business. The Action Line advocates are backed up by lawyers, the Better Business Bureau and professional associations (Ombudsmen). You might check out if something like that is available in your area. Good Luck!

P.S. And don't get me started on Dealerships! My GMC Dealership, Honolulu Buick GMC, sucks the big one!!!!
