if they are replacing the airbag over the glove box they do sort of have to touch the dash otherwise it will just break more, mine has a fine crack right where the airbag is, I have had it out it has clips that go into the dash although it is bolted in from belowbagg.JPG

Well, I keep running my VIN through all those sites, including the NHTSA and it comes up clean every time. Also had the steering wheel air bag out recently and it was not a Takata, it was GM from Canada if memory serves. Should have photographed it but is easy enough to remove and check out.

I reckon that if we want to keep driving these things for thirty years, we'll have to remove the airbags someday and have all the warnings and such "tuned" out.

Looks like there's no recall on mine either.

they really have not issued it all out yet the decision was just made about a week ago, I don't think GM has filed the public report yet. they have 60 days to notify everyone affected

What if my car isn't recalled now? Could it be recalled later?

Yes. Whether a manufacturer independently conducts a safety recall or NHTSA orders one, the manufacturer must file a public report describing the safety-related defect or noncompliance. Manufacturers are also required to notify owners by mail within 60 days of notifying NHTSA of a recall decision.

That's good to know. But with the # of vehicles affected, I have no doubt it will take a while to get replaced. I've heard of people with Toyotas waiting years for a recall.

My Burb was made in Texas as well, and has Takata air bags and is therefore affected by the recall.

The most likely cause of the airbag light in these trucks is front crash sensor corrosion. I just replaced both in my 09 Denali. I probably have some time before the ones in the Suburban crap the bed because it's garaged and not a DD.

See conflicting posts on this, do they or don't they need to touch the dash/top access for this? I just ordered a Dashskin for my Tahoe, and don't want to put it on if it'll impact this recall replacement.

They didnt take my dash out, but do need access to the top. Mine just had a hole where the bag went and thats all they removed on the dash besides the glove box area.

FYI: We have personally experienced several dealerships refusing to sell these trucks to the public for fear of liability or because of the rules of their business and instead sent them to auction.
