Does anyone have good experience with a handheld tuner for these vehicles? For now my PPV is stock but I plan on adding an intake and exhaust in the future. I refuse to use anything from BullyDog but im open to hearing about other brands.

I recommend a custom tune, handheld tuners are a waste of money IMO. I've try several in the past and did not get the results I expected.

For what it's worth, I bought an Edge CTS and it did not work for my PPV. I guess the unique configuration of my 2009 with the 4L60e was not something they could support.
For that reason alone I would go custom.

If you can handle the initial cost, a Black Bear Performance tune is the way to go. Once you have completed the first tune, any subsequent tunes on the same truck for future mod installations are free.

How do they do the tuning? Do I have to take the vehicle to them or is it a mailing process situation?

They can do it both ways. I did it the remote way, both the original tune, and subsequent tunes. For example, when I changed tire sizes, they provided me with another tune (remotely), that corrected my speedometer/odometer synchronization.

Give them a call, and let them explain the options available to you. @BlackBearPerf

I recommend going to an actual tuner.

Hand helds are cookie cutter tunes

Sorry for the delay in replying, crazy busy week at work, but what is the average horsepower and torque gains from one of your tunes?
We strive to unlock every bit of available power from your engine. If you have the 5.3 this typically results in a 10-25hp, 10-20ft-lbs and 1-2mpg improvement along with improved shift patterns and throttle response, all depending on fuel quality, octane and vehicle condition prior to the tune.
