Taking the Yukon on its first family road trip. Has anyone done/added anything to theirs to make a trip better? All the maintenance is up to date and I keep an eye on fluids/tires, etc. I'm just looking for an excuse to buy something that might make a road trip more enjoyable.

I had considered installing headrest dvd players for the kids, but ultimately decided we got more flexibility by letting them have their tablets.

How many people in the vehicle? We have 6 people and to free up space in ours we have a rooftop luggage carrier. Have also used a hitch mount platform.

What about an electric cooler to keep drinks cold?

We'll have 4 people...with the 3rd row seats removed. I do have a hitch mount carrier I was considering. That's definitely an option if space gets tight. Hadn't thought about an electric cooler. I'll check into that.

We have our dog in he kennel in the back which takes up a bunch of space. Rooftop carrier for the win.
The neighbor did offer their roof carrier if we need it. Thankfully the dog is not coming so I don't have to worry about that taking up space.

Set of jumper cables
Spare key

Also, get the spare hoist hadle out and go through the motions to lower the spare and make sure everything works and get familiar with it. While it's down, check the air pressure in it.

Yep I always have jumper cables. Good call on the spare key and checking the spare tire. I'll definitely do that.

if I am going on a extended road trip I usually will throw in a small basic tool bag with the common size mm used, duck tape, zip ties, little bit of bailing wire, flashlight, water in some form. just some basic stuff that might save me a $300 minor repair at a opportunist shop. oh and CASH I usually stuff my wallet with about a $1000 in mixed bills it's come in handy before when you get somewhere and discover the atm is down or point of sale isn't working, etc.
