Anyone put an E Cutout on a 2015+ 5.3?

I like having a quiet stock muffler on my Tahoe. I don't like being "that guy" that wakes up my neighbors or everyone at a campsite. I also like a quiet truck when cruising down the highway.

That being said, I have a 2000 Camaro with Heads, Cam and Longtubes , an offroad Y with a 4" E Cutout before a really quiet ****** muffler. I have tell you that it's pretty hilarious to have DB level on demand. You can open it partially or wide open with the flip of a switch.

Has anyone done this with a stock L83 after that cats? Would it sound like ass? The entertainment value would be off the charts for myself personally!

ive always debated on installing those electronically baffled muffler on my tahoe. doesn't really matter where you go your always legal except for possible noise complaints. but you have the choice of a fully baffled muffler and flip of a switch your basically running glasspacks.

I’m considering an electric cutout between my cat and muffler. I’ve heard bad reviews about the motors going bad over time though.

It sounds great currently with my Magnaflow 12259 and Airaid MIT, but I’d love to just open it up at high rpm sometimes [emoji16]

i'll get a guillotine style, as those seem to seal better when closed

Hey Matt, they do go bad. I have literally had seven or eight different cut outs, different brands. They usually come apart due to heat cycles and vibration. The trick is to disassemble all of the screws and bolts and reassemble with red Loctite before installing. Back in the day I settled on QTP. I have no idea of the quality of newer brands or models.

Well I'm pulling the trigger. I anticipate some time home from work in the next few weeks so I could use a fun project.

Getting a Summit Racing brand Y-pipe because I've seen bad reviews about QTPs pipes, but will be using QTPs valve and electronics. Will line it up flush and use these butt clamps to attach for now, then I'll be able to have my exhaust shop weld it if I want it more permanent. Wish me luck!

Badass! Can’t wait to hear what it sounds like. Make sure you test fit the turn down on the cut out. One of my butterfly blades would hit the turn down pipe inside and not fully open. Try not to operate the cut out by hand, supposedly it screws up the motor. I ended up just running it without the turndown, But all the sound hitting the pavement is going to sound a lot more bad ass than just straight out. Also, count how many seconds it takes to fully open and close, then don’t exceed that when you operate the switch. That will lead to early demise of the motor and or gears causing flutter of the valve.

Cutout is in. Clamp idea wasn’t going to work so I had my local exhaust guy weld it in. Guess I didn’t realize there wasn’t much available straight pipe to use (pictures I had seen were from Silverados or Suburbans with longer wheelbase).

He ended up cutting out the flapper and extra straight section behind the muffler, moved muffler back a few inches and putting the cutout right in front of the muffler. Here are some pics before & after. Turn down isn’t as close to the driveshaft as it looks. Will get better pics and video soon.

Thanks for running with this. What's your impression? Does it sound stupid? Hilarious? Any regrets? Do you notice the absence of the flapper? Are you running partially open at times? Where did you mount the switch?

Sorry for all of the questions! Just a little excited over here....
