Trying to find the correct ball mount for my stock 2009 Tahoe LT 2" receiver hitch. What is the recommended drop distance for towing light trailers (small utility trailers, etc.)?

On my stock '07 LT I have to use a 6" drop hitch to keep my trailers close to level. I tow a Bass Tracker Pro Team 175 and a 4 x 8 flatbed utility trailer.

Should also come in handy for any tailgaters that happen to misjudge their stopping distance...

Depends on the coupler height of the trailer but 5.5 to 6 inches would be a good start. I started with a fixed 5.5 that I bought one late night at a Walmart but the next time I towed, used an adjustable hitch. This little feller is good for 7500 pounds; not the max of my truck, just way over the trailer I use. I bought a larger ball for it too.

it's also good to stop idiots from bumping into you in the parking lot as it will cause significant damage to the other party... even at 5mph they can expect a bumper replacement ..

someone did hit me at a light, a Silverado GMT800 bumper folded like a wet paper plate LOL thousands in damage for only a couple of mph

( as i was about to move, i stalled out) i just let it go as it was his fault(anyways) for following to closely ..

I do check it occasionally to make sure everything is secure don't want it flying threw someones window

Well, I have a 0” solid tri-ball, 2”, & 4” drop mount. I guess I could buy one of the adjustable ones like James recommended, but.....

And hooked to the boat, you can see I still have an inch or so of rear rake on the boat trailer. Which is good because it aids me in sliding it off the PVC bunks:

That looks pretty good. I am torn between a 4” or 6” now. In our Envoy the 2” works well. That receiver is 20.5” to the center from the ground. My Suburban’s is 22” to the center. Thinking a 4” drop would be good. I usually like the tongue a little high so when fully loaded for a trip it levels out. The suburban is auto leveling so I may have to reconsider.

So much depends on your TV's autoleveling capability and the tongue weight and height; here's some good info:

Don't forget to have adequate tongue weight and have the tongue level or lower than level to avoid sway, especially with a heavier trailer. Lots of info out there about that.

That's why I got the adjustable one. Now there's a bunch under my work bench! Most coupler heights are 16" to 18" but there are exceptions. I spent more than a few hours researching this topic for our needs.

The hell it doesn’t. Your axles are the same height which is what’s going to drag, not the body. Unless you go with huge tires. My Denali is a Beast in the snow.

Ok, low goes in snow. My concern would be when I go down the logging road up north. I don't wanna lose my chin spoiler.

The NBS"s rear hitch is lower than the NNBS, it hangs below the bumper vs in the bumper.
