I have been looking at some rust free options for this year Yukon Denali. I found 1 for sale that has 156,000 miles. What are your thoughts? How long will these engines last if maintained properly?

I drive about 5 to 10,000 miles per year so I am not against buying a higher mileage rust free Yukon.

They are asking too high IMO. What would you pay for a used 2006 Yukon XL Denali with 156,000 miles?

I wouldn't worry about the engine, but the transmission is going to be the weak point. Pay attention to how it shifts during the test drive and check the fluid. Is it full? How does it look? Super dirty like it's never been changed? Or brand new like they changed it two days ago to mask a problem?

As for how much it's worth, that's very dependent on location.

As mstaake415 suggests, prices do vary, from region to region, and current condition is primary factor in the purchase decision. I'd recommend that you focus more on the rust-free status and the available history of service performed on the truck, more than miles alone. I purchased my new-to-me 07 Yukon XL Denali in mid 2018 for $14,000 with 125k miles. The truck spent most of its life in North Carolina, and it was rust free.

Other folks on this Forum will chime in with their thoughts and perspectives.

I wish you the best of outcomes on your search.

Agreed. Transmissions are the week point. Much easier and cheaper to fix a trans then it is to do body work. How much are they asking? 156,000 is pretty good for an 06.

My 02 had 148k on it when I bought it almost 4 years ago and 160k now. I live where I work so the mileage stays low. No rust and bought it for just under $4k. Around here they tend to be pricier but I got lucky and got all repair and maintenance records with it. It is the area that can make the biggest difference in the price asked, especially with relatively low miles.

Damn that’s the exact truck I wanted when I bought my 2006 XL Denali 5 years ago! Hah! Beautiful truck!
Like the others have said maintenance and repairs done on the truck will give these things a long life span. 156k on the odometer isn’t terrible. It’s not what I’d consider “low mileage”, but like I said not bad. I’m currently just shy of 135k on my 2006, and I have had it 5 years now. Bought it with 74k on the odometer in February of 2015, and I paid 15,000 for mine when all was said and done. Which was right about where it was worth at the time I purchased. Price point for you will be based on the region. I spent more but that’s because it was under 100k mileage, in very good shape, and that demands a higher price point here in Southern California. Rust free vehicles may demand a higher price point for you based on location, and it might be worth paying that if it doesn’t have any rust and doesn’t need body work right out the gate after purchasing.

I bought my 2005 Tahoe here in SoCal 110,000 in the clock for $4500. No oil leaks just had to change the hose the ran through the A/C. Truck runs like a dream.

You're right... as a SF Bay Area person I always forget about rust. Not a speck of rust on my 01 Burb with 290K. Original engine. Probably original trans. Runs and shifts like new except for a misfire if I push it above 4500RPM for a long time. Don't need to do that often so basically it's no issue :) In other words, I'd recommend paying more attention to rust than the trans, but pay attention to the trans too :)

Found another one in Minnesota. Denali comes from AZ. He bought it off an older couple 2 years ago. No rust. Comes with winter tires and rims as well as summer tires and rims. He also wants 9000 for the vehicle. 139,000 miles. Going to do a VIN check on it.

So the second one, the black one. I ran a Vin check and it was in a minor accident. He said the insurance company totaled out the vehicle and he did the repairs. This is a pic. Stated no frame damage. Just bumper and hood. VIN check shows no salvage or junked vehicle and he said the title is clean . Here is a pic. You can't even tell there was damage

Do I use that as a negotiations point or move on?

That’s not bad for a 2006. My 2004 just turned 108K a couple of months ago. I bought mine 5 years ago when it only had 46K on her. They are out there, just have to be patient. I think I spent close to 6 months looking for the right one. It didn’t look this clean when I bought it, but it was well maintained with no rust, dents, or accidents.

Why would the insurance total out a truck for that amount of damage?! I can’t imagine a hood and front end would cost more than the value of the truck? That seems odd to me. Like @Danny3737 said the low mileage clean trucks are out there. I looked for mine for a few months before purchasing mine as well.

I'd at least look. Check for wrench marks under there or clamp marks on the frame.

I can tell in the second pic something isn't right. Look at the top of the bumper cap. It's much farther out on the driver side.

They go by a certain percentage of damage compared to the value of the vehicle itself.
