I am going within the next 2 days to see this Tahoe. What should I look for? 6 speed trans right? I know about the possible dash crack. Since I own a 2002, I tend to stay in the forum so would like some info from you guys/girls. Thanks

According to what I found the stock height for my 2002 LT 4WD is 74.1". What is the stock height for the 2008 LT 4WD?

Including any luggage rack and my OnStar antenna I fit under the entrance of the car port I back into. The max height cannot exceed 80".

Almost all 2008 Tahoes will not have a 6-speed transmission. There were 136 RWD Tahoes equipped with the 380 horsepower 6.2 L92 motor and those did have the 6-speed and 9.5" rear axle.

Height from the ground to the top of the roof rack cross rail is anywhere from 75.0 to 75.6 inches tall. PPVs are 73.6. The variation is because of options, the tire and suspension option.

Look for a 2008 Vehicle and Frame Height Chart if you want to get cross eyes looking at charts of numbers!

Looks nice, heated seats for first and second row, heated washer fluid option, 2-speed transfer case, 4-speed trans. Probably 3.73 gears. Looks real nice from what I can see. It's got a ball in the back, ask about towing.

It would have the AFM correct? I asked if there was a scratch at the front bumper on driver's side but he said that there is not a scratch or dent on it. Is garaged all the time and has records for all maint and repairs. I know the shop he takes it to and they have an excellent reputation.

Yes, it probably has the LMG iron block 5.3.

Then is that engine one of the ones that they had problems with the AFM on, until they updated with better materials and better operation in the later models? Again, have not dealt with the AFM on any of them and did not see in any of my shops for that problem, so I only know what I pick up here about it. That in and of itself kind of scares me.

Yes, but realize it wasn't all of them. The biggest problem was the VLOM solenoids getting out of time which caused a lifter to jam up and collapse and such often happened around 100K miles. Chances are, yours has already been upgraded. If not, turn it off and keep the oil clean. They updated the lifters a couple of times, there is a new VLOM and driver's side valve cover which helps reduce oil consumption by relocating the PCV opening.

As an owner of an '08 that was purchased around 147K, I concur with the diver of swaths. Check the maintenance and service history to see if it's ever had any AFM failures and/or parts updates. See if the oil is clean and try to determine if it has always been kept clean (changed more frequently and regularly than going by the OLM). If all that checks out and it sounds quiet, particularly after a cold start, disable the AFM with a tune or Range to help preserve it.

I just came back from checking it but no road test because of a heavy rain. I am supposed to drive it Sunday if he still has it. BIG crack in the dash on the driver's side. The tow ball in the pic was for an aluminum boat on a trailer. Very light. Trans cooler lines leaking. Several small scratches all around but not into the primer so could be buffed out. Steering wheel has sections where the outer layer is rubbed off but no gouges. The one large knob in the picture on the lower left of center dash has all the insignia's rubbed off. Power steering pump leaking behind pulley. 4 speed trans. Inside is really dusty and dirty. Think his wife has a small dog but did not see claw scratches on leather seats. Has the driver's seat rubbed thru at the rear side area where the wife just falls out of it when she gets out. She is about 4'6" tall. The driver's side window has a regulator going out. Lots of squeaking, grinding, squawking noises going up and down. Oil was clean and so was the coolant and trans fluid. The brake fluid was dirty. I will look at the paperwork he has if I go for a road test on Sunday.

All in all I was a bit disappointed with what I just saw as opposed to what he represented. He said he would take $500 off for the paint buffing but I didn't get into the fact that I would still not pay the $11,000 after that credit is taken off. Maybe I am just cheap but I still need t road test and right now I would not give more than $8000 for it.

make sure it was not warmed up if it's running when you get there walk away FAST.. check the exhaust manifold to see if they warmed it up before you got there( don't touch it but put your hand near it or maybe a ice cube) i would not buy anything that was used for towing if it does not have the heavy duty tow package (the big tras cooler)
