Does anybody have little specs of ‘glitter’ in their catch can? This is the first real oil change on this engine so I’m not too worried but I may dump the contents of the can into an oil sample container and then take a sample of engine oil and send both off to Blackstone for oil analysis.

edit: I should also say that the can is only up to this level in the can after a few thousand miles

I don’t see any glitter in mine. What I get is about 4-6oz of a caramel coloured emulsion when I check it once every few thousand miles. I disabled DoD via software too.

If possible, you should try to cut open your oil filter and see what's in there.

I will. My thinking is that it’s flakes from the new rockers breaking in. I don’t see how bearing material could get into the pcv
Doesn't the oil run thru the motor and then the fumes are caught in the Catchcan?, I would think therefore whatever material the oil captures would then also enter the pcv

yeah but the super high surface tension of the oil would hold onto the metal- not allowing it to get sucked up by the pcv like it would the vapors. The fumes seem to be pretty close to 50/50 fuel/oil mix

Sounds like some scientific mumbo jumbo oil marketing, unless it's captured by the oil filter I am certain any contaminants would be found throughout the engine, just like coolant when a head gasket blows. do you see the same thing on the oil dipstick?, what did you put in the catch can as a filter material?

Nothing on the dipstick except very clean looking oil! My idea for catch can filter material didn’t go for shit. :c the amount of flakes in the catch can was very low however

Mine fills up half way every fuggin week. :(

That's awesome, I never heard of that!!! :chewie: Let us know how it works!
Have you done the oil cap blow by test? How’s your compression?

@CHOO CHOO I will have to buy some of that stuff to fix mine. I know someone mentioned it a month or so ago but I haven’t gotten around to buying some.

Shit works awesome doesn’t it?
It’s the shit..
Let's hope it does. It's no where near cold enough to test it, but I wanted it done before it was too cold. The biggest pita was holding it up and using a heat gun. Had to get gloves and eventually just used a paint stick to put pressure on it until I was sure it wasn't gonna fall off.
I globbed it on and didn't care about if it was super clean job. I wanted to make sure it had enough to stay on all sides.

Sounds worse than it turned out, but it was covered well. Taking the tab out from the wire would have made it easier too.

Heat gun? You can pull the tailgate glass on the NBS in 10 minutes, I’m pretty sure the NNBS is the same, pull 2 bolts and it slides out. That’s how I did mine, took it inside and laid it down where it was warm. That way it’s easy to work on. And yes, pull the tab off the wire!

I definitely pulled the tabs off. Had to sand the old crap, and previous shit-repair attempt off anyway. Then I stood playing on my phone with a heat gun on it. Didn’t take out the glass but that would have made it a little easier.

NNBS is a little more involved due to the third brake light being attached to the glass but not impossible. I would have done it with the glass installed myself but can see where doing it on the bench would be easier to do.
