Painted my door speaker grilles. I used a high heat engine dark grey metallic color.

Did you strip the old paint?
No used scrubbing bubbles cleaner and a red scotch brite to clean them , rinsed with water real good , blow dry with air , applied paint , then used a heat gun to cure it a bit. Let sit for a couple of hours then installed them. No need to try and remover the factory paint , would be more hassle than benefit.

Ok now I have 5 of these I have to deal with. I'm thinking of stripping clear coat off sanding the deep pits if needed 600-1200 grit . Then just polishing aluminum to a killer shine . Paint the inside part inside spokes with grey like they are now paint the back.. then just put like 5 coats of good grade wax on front polished parts.. and once year touch them up. Because I know if I clear coat and it goes yellow and just peel again . Any pointers to make easyer .
Let me know ..

Don't forget I'm in the salt belt .. Minnesota

Too much work just find newer ones. I got the Acura rims I put on my accord for $220/set nearly brand new. And the wheels on my Yukon FROM THE DEALER with brand new tires for $700.
