The aluminum hood sounds interesting. Lift gate too but I don’t know about that. I’d really like to buy the tooling to do carbon fiber work though. Full carbon hood and lift gate skin, fenders, and roof. Delete the sunroof.
The lift gates have been aluminum forever. Go try to stick a magnet to yours.

Bought some of these to try out because I have had somewhat good luck with there carpet cleaner before, these seem to work pretty fair in general but when trying on the headliner it did leave some of the blue thread material behind, a follow-up with a regular baby wipe removed it

Speaking of headliners, my ceiling vents have black stains on the louvers. I've tried a couple different cleaners I had in the garage with no luck. Does anyone know how these remove? It looks like there are 2 mounting holes around the lip, don't know if they just snap in or what?

on my nbs they used to just twist in a semi circle and then slide out, I would imagine these are same

wrong they had to put the tahoe on a slim fast diet to get the exact same curb weight as the non hybrid..

so they could put a 500 pounds more worth of equipment in.. It has a reinforced structure for extra protection just to protect the battery LOL

2008 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ/Curb weight
5,265 2WD to 5,524 lbs 4x4

2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid/Curb weight
5,270 2wd to 5,527 lbs 4x4

I know the NBS are aluminum, are you saying they went back to steel on the NNBS? Mine shows signs of what looks like rust but it’s just aluminum corrosion.

do you have part numbers for the hybrid tail lights and d pillar trim?

Mine has a little rust along the welds at the bottom on the right side.

They started using aluminum lift gates on the NBS. Pretty sure they didn’t go back. I know mine is.

I've read on here that the Hybrid had an aluminum liftgate, and that is the reason why the rear window was non-openable. If this is true, I would assume non-Hybrids had steel liftgates (where'd I put my magnet?). I'm curious to know if this is the case. And I don't see how the aluminum would preclude having the glass open.

Hybrid could have an aluminum skin and structure vs just an aluminum skin maybe.

More likly IMO they ditched the hinge and latch assembly to save weight just like they ditched the roof rack and spare tire

Does yours have an aluminum or steel driveshaft? The steel one has a critical speed of 5000 rpms (same as front DS on 4x4) that limits top speed to about 134. The PPVs must use something different as their driveshafts are turning about 5,400 rpms at 139 mph with either transmission.

My max safe speed would be around 122 or so; the propellers' critical speed is 4556 rpms.

It's steel. Now I'm trying to think of what vehicle I had or at least was under a lot that had an aluminum shaft.

Oh well, I rarely ever visit Mexico and I doubt I'll ever take this rig above the 120s. But I'll be sure my U-joints are of good quality and in top shape regardless.

Yes. I had a u-joint snap on a front driveshaft at only 30 mph but under full boost on The Beast and it took out part of the oil pan and the filter was blenderized. I got lucky, can’t imagine what would happen at that speed.

It's not easy to find much detail on Hybrid differences. I found this:

https://media.gm.com/media/us/en/chevrolet/vehicles/tahoehybrid/2012.html

Someone asked about the D-pillar trim. They look exactly like the Escalade ones. I had no idea there was an aero benefit to them. Cool.
Oh good to know. I'm also looking at the hybrid tail lights because IIRC the brake light "bulbs" were LED weren't they? Do you have to pair the hybrid tails with the hybrid D pillar trim?

Looking at this picture and that link @the_tool_man posted- we now know why the rear glass doesn't open on the hybrids- because the rear spoiler is extended on the hybrid. I also answered my own question- kind of. The D pillar trim and hybrid tail lights look like they are molded with the trim. I'd really like to run them for the LED brake lights and the aero benefit with the d pillar trim.

If they're the same as Escalade, you can physically mix them however you want. But the shapes wont quite line up right. It's just an appearance issue.

Keep in mind if the lights are LED, they will require resistors at least to avoid hyper flash. It's possible, though I dont know this for sure, that the harnesses use different plugs. I do know the OEM Escalade taillights, which are LED, are not the same plug as Tahoe/Yukon.

Maybe. I would characterize it a little differently. Looks to me like the rear glass is recessed relative to non-hybrid. The spoiler looks similar to an Escalade one in shape, but with a different light. I think GM could have fitted shorter glass struts to prevent the window from contacting the spoiler if they'd wanted to, and that was the only issue. I think they redesigned the hatch with fixed glass, resulting in the recess. Whether for aero, or weight savings, or both, someone decided it was worth losing the functionality of the rear glass to gain those things. I use the rear window a lot. So I'd disagree with their choice.
