No, it would look slantways at you. All '03-'07 classics do.

I like where this thread is going.

I can't say I miss any GMT800 because most everyone I know has one that I work on. So, I get my GMT800 lovin indirectly. I still find myself window shopping for them from time to time.

Woah guys, this post got out of hand a bit. I’m not taking anything away from the 2016, it just doesn’t drive like my 02. It’s just the way I feel when I drive both. I truly feel my 02 handles curves and bumps better even at 17 years old and 279,000 miles. The 2016 is nice, it’s very nice. But it’s not as comfortable as the 02 as it has the sporty seats. It isn’t as smooth, maybe because it has 22’s and the original tires. The 2016 is beautiful, NO DOUBT! But that doesn’t mean it has a nicer ride. I guess I can get smaller wheels and fatter tires, but that doesn’t seem right to me.

I flat out Love Love Love my 02. I didn’t buy because of brand loyalty. I bought a 2016 Denali cause I love my 02 and figured it would be an unreal upgrade. I personally felt disappointed after 3 years of ownership but that’s just me. Don’t crush me here. I’ve said this before, this forum is great and has awesome people I here giving great advice. Keep it up!

Dude. No reason to sweat. Those of us who have the NNBS with MRC know it drives like a dumpster fire...Like you I also miss my NBS lazy-boy seat and ride but appreciate the interior upgrades the NNBS has.

Glad to hear you’re open to checking out other brands...there’s so much great stuff out there today! Cheers.
Pardon my ignorance here, you’re saying there’s GMT900 SUVs with mag ride suspension like what the 2015+ SUVs have?! I didn’t know that.

Only in the GMT900 Escalades I believe. There is another option that acts like MRC, but it isn't. That is the Z55 which uses electronic valves in the shock, vs MRC and it's special fluid in the shock.

Ah ok thanks for explaining! I knew that they had the Z55 setups, which is what my truck has. But didn’t know they had the MRC.
Yeah. In the Escalades.
Thanks for the explanation!

My 2017 Escalade ESV with 22 inch wheels is smooth as butter over all kinds of roads, imperfections and all, while selectable MRC is in “touring”/normal mode. However, once you select MRC to be “sport”, it drives like a sports car and you can feel all the bumps and imperfections, but it also tightens down the handling really well for a rig this large. I can take turns like a champ.

I would buy another one in the future. And I’m interested in the next generation Denali XL.

I actually don’t think there are any decent competitors for the LWB except the Expedition/Navigator, which fall short IMO. I drove both and picked GM. The cargo space behind the 3rd row is huge in the GM LWB trucks, and is significantly smaller in the Ford products. If that’s important to you, as it is for me, with kids, sports, vacations, we need all that room behind the 3rd row. And BTW, the specs don’t tell the whole story, you have to see the Ford product to see: the back cargo area is curved and looses a ton of room because of it. However when they measure the length they measure it to its longest point, the tip of the curve- which is the reason the specs don’t tell the whole story.

Also, Fords/Lincoln’s loose their value significantly faster than GM. The General is the way to go if you need a vehicle with this size and capability. I would have been happy with any of the GM LWB triplets- almost bought the Suburban at one point.

Let me see if others have this same problem.

Rumble Strips, those rigid lines of maybe 5 small bumps in the road meant to slow you down or keep you aware that there’s a school around (at least by me)

2002 - I can cruise over those and only hear that I am driving over them.

2016 - I feel those bumps into my steering wheel, seat, and the loudness. The one thing that seems crazy is the steering wheel vibrates out of control and you can visually see it move like.

Normal?

I know this is the 2015+ section, but I had a similar issue with my 09. Granted it only has the Z55 suspension and not MRC. When my front struts were shot, the computer maxed out the electronic valving and when I went over rumble strips, the steering wheel shook badly, as well as the entire dash. I replaced with OEM parts and now it doesn't shake anymore. I wonder if your front struts are shot?

One thing to note is the 2002 has a normal mechanical steering box. I’m not sure if the 2016 has drive by wire steering but my daughters 2016 Cruze did. The steering wheel has a computer mounted at the column and that computer controls the steering box with no mechanical connection. I tried to find out if the SUV’s have dbw steering but can’t find the info.

Only the Escalade has this setting. The rest of the MRC’s are set to stiff.

Ive driven many sports cars and none of them feel like the MRC with 22’s IMO.

It is odd how the room behind the 3rd row is so much smaller in the expedition. The ford does however have higher cargo height/opening which is nice. My 2010 could take anything but the fold flats in my 2016 really limit the cargo height.

I’m going to take a video and post it. To me, I just assume this is normal but have no clue.

I've had a explorer, expedition, and grand Cherokee in the last few years. The Tahoe is my favorite by far! Ford has gone to crap in my opinion in the last 5 years or so. No QC what so ever in their products. Loved the grand Cherokee SRT I had but was just not roomy enough for me.

IMHO the NBS Denali w/ 17’s were the Caddie type ride for their day. The sidewall of larger aspect tires contributed to the luxo ride allowing the suspension to do less work.

If you look at the NBS sister trucks, their platforms were the standard for work vehicles in some form or another. The Chevy long bed with a head ache rack or service bin configuration was the no frills purchase option for commercial or sub contractor.

The wake up call occurred when Merc brought their Eurospec work vans to the mainstream. GM is doing catch up w/ the dominant, established Euro & Asian Eurovans. GM now dominates the current niche they occupy, but they’re not embracing clean diesel, hybrid or electric. When the next $6 a gal event occurs, they’ll be dumbstruck on what to sell to keep the lights on.

The truck & suv biz is a dicey buss to be in right now. I can’t imagine why they failed on a clean TDI or hybrid full size NNBS. Orders would be stacked stupid silly and the next golden age would bloom. Their NNBS focused advertising on what you’ll be if you buy they’re product. The NBS focused on brand, reliability and a new pinnacle, the EXT & Escalade. Put the team back in play that imagined 4 wheel steer trucks, hybrids and the pride of their workforce that sold steak, not the sizzle.

Ford has signed on to the stupid Turbo V6. Nuff said.
