Well my dash finally cracked at the air bag. I decided to try and salvage it. During the process getting it out another crack occurred at the center speaker. I fixed all cracks with the hot staple gun and jb weld plastic bonder. The center clip to hold the front dash has always been missing so I took some 1/16 aluminum and made a new clip. Used the jb weld to secure it. The hot staple helped hold the cracks together. Then roughed up plastic with 80 grit paper. I did find more cracks under the dash once I took it off so I repaired those areas too. I’m very surprised how brittle the plastic is over the years. I will keep this one until it gets worse then replace it. Anyhow here’s some pics.

Nice work. I hope it holds up. I did all that to my 08 Silverado dash and a week after it cracked again right next to the repair area. Ugghhh. I ended up replacing it with the new and supposedly improved part.

Honestly if I were you I probably would have just tried to replace the whole dash if I was already pulling it all the way off like that. You're right about how brittle it is. I just lost my 2008 Tahoe to a drunk driver but it had developed four distinct cracks in the 6.5 years I had it. It gave me anxiety whenever anyone in the passenger seat touched the dash at all because of how fragile it was. i just bought a 2011 Z71 Tahoe and it looks like the previous owner actually installed a dash cover over the original so I'm sure there are cracks underneath it.

Your dash looks solid now though, so let's hope no new cracks develop.

PS My last Tahoe had the tan interior with wood grain just like yours and the new one is just a black interior. I miss the old one!

My intent was to replace it but dealers won’t give me any discounts. So that left me with trying a repair or paying $550 for one part of the two piece dash. Online price is $315 plus $200 shipping so didn’t save much there either. I know a couple dealers a few hours away that I can get discounted if it cracks again. Hope it holds out. Thanks!

Thanks! We will see how it holds out. The air bag crack has been in it for 6-8 months and nothing else cracked yet so thinking it might survive another couple years.

Just called my local GMC dealer here in Raleigh, NC and I am pretty sure the prices have gone up. He quoted me $514.22 for the main dash piece and $364.80 for the extension that goes in front if it. Good grief that's a lot.

My local dealers prices were way high. I found a dealer in Texas through eBay that had a lower price including shipping.

Yup that’s what I’ve found in town also. Greenville has my color in stock but wouldn’t give me any discounted price

I have a 2007 Tahoe, and have recently found a crack on the front dash. I was wondering if anybody else has had issues with the dash cracking for no apparent reason. By the way, it is on the back side of the top dash right behind the airbag cut out for the passenger.
Yes I found a crack in my 2011 Yukon dash as well and don’t know how it happened.

Yeah they all crack beside passenger air bag. Take it off and try a repair. If it’s brittle and destroyed on the removal then replace anyhow.

You can get the instrument panel from GM Parts Direct for $372.60, but will have to add $200 for shipping. This makes the dealer cheaper by $60.

Any good suggestion for a decent looking dash pad in the $50 range that can at least cover the dash and not look like a piece of cut carpet?

Was anyone able to stop the center rattle without pulling the dash? I'm thinking of just glueing the cracks and covering with a dash mat like the one listed above.

I put a fitted cover, from LMC, in my '95 to help prevent any cracking. It looks fine to me but you may not like it. Since it is a piece of cut carpet, it kinda looks like a piece of cut carpet.

Then again, my house is carpeted too.

there are some nice dash covers out there you can have them in any color, embroidered or whatever. Heat is not what is making these dash crack and break it's cheap garbage plastic and poor design, the bottom has virtually no support structure where it should so eventually from moving up and down and just stress from the forces of driving they crack and break, the area's around the passenger airbag and the center speaker if you have one are paper thin. If yours hasn't broke don't worry it probably will.

To date, I've owned 7 vehicles that are on the GMT900 Platform (07 avy, 07 esky, 08 tahoe, 09 denali, 10 tahoe, 11 yukon). I just purchased my 7th one last week, a 2013 Yukon Denali. I totaled my 2010 Tahoe 2 weeks ago and was forced to get another vehicle. When I got the 2010 Tahoe, it came with a dash cover from https://www.dashskin.com and was surprised at how great it was. Tt is very well made and blends in nicely. I just bought another one for my 2013 Denali because of the cracks. Out of owning 7 vehicles on the GMT900 platform, how many do you think had a cracked dash?........SEVEN. 7 out of 7. I love GM vehicles but this is one of the biggest GM fails I've ever seen in my life. Haven't posted on this forum in years, but had to share that after blowing almost $200 on a damn dash cover because of the infamous GM cracked dash.
