turned it up and promptly broke something :banghead:

what i thought was going to be a little turn up on boost controller.... was a whole bunch.
on top of that I figured it was going to be a lot lazier but turbo lit off and boost shot up to like 250kpa absolute on log (250-101)/6.9=21.5 psi (101kpa=atmosphere) from a roll this was only like 60%tps @4500rpm

got out of it quick, stopped soon as i could and closed up the controller (back to wastegate) everything seemed pretty good, was a few miles from house, kept looking over a few things on the way back everything good and just normal driving started making some clacking sound it sounded like top end valve train, figured a rocker or spring or something busted. limped it home. sat on it a few days and didnt feel like messing with it. started up it was hard to pinpoint from where it was coming sounded like back of engine but couldnt really tell which side.
pulled valve covers thursday, everything was pretty tight :( passengerside cyl 6/8 the lash on the rockers was kinda loose springs were tight but thought it was odd even while turning engine over but o well definitely dont think that was the issue, crawled under and looked at flexplate best i could (have new one waiting to go on) but not so sure thats it either.
soooo started pulling engine friday night pretty much just took off the downpipe and turbo. today friend and i ran over to my brothers to grab engine hoist and stand, messed around most of the day doin family crap didnt get back to it till about 4 this afternoon, another couple hours tomorrow and it should be out
it still starts up and idles fine sounds like its running on 8 cyls  ive got a whole list of stuff ive wanted to get to so hopefully i dont have to do something with engine at the moment

Damn that sucks man. I guess this will be an opportunity to build that motor to stand up to 21.5psi.. [emoji15] [emoji106][emoji23]

why stop there :Nonono:

really if engine can be "cheaply" fixed ie - a little machine work, couple new bearings i'll do that.

but if needs machine work/rotating assembly - no point in not going forged now but after all said in done for another grand or so i can get a complete built/forged shortblock with a warranty i'll just end up doing that

and its all good... i dont think this engine would have survived to a point where i would be satisfied anyway, on 20psi though it should be damn close, was a savage.... 6psi is an injustice to this big ass turbo lol

Turbochargers love to spin and make boost! The Buicks really came alive when we got them up past 16 psi. At ten or twelve they felt like dogs even though they'd dust just about everything. That 1st gear boost swing was always fun!

Welp....
Pulled and started breaking down, heads looked clean, valves all good, rockers, springs (may change anyway about 50k miles @.600 lift)
Pistons looked great, all still one piece, rotated with no heads looked like everything good was kinda wtf.
Flipped over and rotated didnt even notice at first, looks like it bent at first then wore thru the bearing laterally then started making noise.
Rubbing on crank it prob needs to be balanced

Well, shit. I was being optimistic that the boost spike somehow cracked your manifold bolts. I mean, if a 200 shot of NOS can explode the bolts holding in your floorpan...
