AFM Newb question

I don't know how 4 auto works. I do set it there when we get lite rains. It's kind of peace of mind for me. I throw it in 4 hi when the weather is shit along with the roads. Not sure how quick 4 auto will activate when I'm going +65mph and every second counts to react .

I've had 3 suburbans. 2011 z71 , 2013 LT3 and 2015 LT . I noticed that the newer gen suburban has a faster reaction in auto . I fishtailed really bad in the z71 once on an incline to a bridge when havin it in auto, because it reacted too slow . From then on I learned that if the conditions call for 4wd , just go all the way .

I live in British Columbia, and drove a highways snow plow for 38 years, I saw MORE suv's in the ditch usually upside down from over driving the road conditions in 4WHEEL DRIVE than those who used auto 4x4 AND drove to the current road conditions. Also in winter DO NOT use all season tires, they are not conformed to winter road conditions or winter temperatures, get a good set of real winter tires, with lots of sypes and walnut shell, ( Toyo's ) and SLOW DOWN....... yes we can go BUT in 99% of the cases of going in the ditch or over the bank is, can you STOP???????...... if not , by going too fast on ****** roads, with all seasons in 4x4, well............... I will call the wrecker for you........... not being a smart ass here, just 38 years of seeing this stuff every day, and owning a 4x4 since 1980

since yall are talkin gas mileage, i am a little dissapointed with my '10 z71 burbs gas mileage. i got 16mpg on a mostly interstate 180 mile trip running 75mph. my previous '02 would always get 14-16 with the old 4speed. but i had to do the math to figure it every once in while, since no computer, so maybe i'm getting a couple of mpg better? i was hoping for 20mpg on the interstate!

I wouldn’t trust the truck tbh, ill do the math every once and a while.

Slow down to 65 mph and you'll see 20-21 easy. At 75 mph mine gets 17 and it doesn't have VVT like yours does, good for at least 1 mpg.

Weight, wind, tires, fuel quality, road surface all come into play and affect mileage.

Cruise Control also makes a big difference. The sweet spot is usually about 70mph . Keep those rpms as low as possible. What I do is I accelerate to about 70 mph give or take , and as soon as it switches gears and the rpms drop I hit the Cruise control , try it out . My record is 26.1 over a 50 mile stretch. I reset a couple of weeks ago and I'm at 23.4 right now

I live in sunny California , so i personally can't afford to buy winter tires for the two weekends a year that i go to tahoe for the snow. I used to think that all terrains were great for wet and snow traction. In ran Toyo open country's on my Silverado and loved them. But it turns out that they dont compare to all season tires in wet or snowy conditions. Of course if i lived in an area that snowed, then I'll probably be forced to buy winter tires.

I was completely unaware that the "sipes" in allseason tires are designed to fill with snow and keep it there, Therefore providing snow on snow contact which improves traction.

YES, Sypes are the best deal going, in winter they open up a little bit and pick up sand particles and help with traction, also they are EXCELLENT for summer use as well...... they run 30% cooler and last 20% longer, than unsyped tires, they run cooler because they open up the block a little bit and let the cool air in and doesn't 'melt' the tread block as quickly.....this is a true thing, I always make sure any tire I buy has lots of sypes, back in the day, we used to have a syping machine at work, and they used to do our big truck tires, the difference is amazing....

hybrid or hybrid body kit if you want at lest 20mpg

I think it's more about the body kit that gives the extra mpg highway since the electric does nothing over a certain speed..

it has a lower coefferiont drag of 0.34 while the reg tahoe has 0.36 drag since a 6.0 is seeing 23hwy for it

the hybrid has different body panels then the regular version of tahoe/suburban. the rear is more like the 2015+
and the front more round bubble shape

That's seriously the biggest Ripoff ever , you can buy an actual stylish body kit for that price. Besides , if GM cares anything about fuel economy and reducing wind drag .... then why didnt they incorporate that into the design for all trim levels to begin with .

GM also ran the XFE for 2009 and 2010 which was reported to deliver an extra 1 mpg city and highway. The trucks were lowered, used the aluminum V8 and suspension, low rolling resistance tires, an aluminum wheel for the spare and 3.08 gears. They also had a special 18" wheel and could get 20" wheels too. My thinking is that the 2010 would do even better as VVT alone is worth 1+ mpg but have never spoken to anyone with one.

Weighing the price vs the 1 or 2 mpg , I dont know what the savings really is . The hybrid is expensive also . You'll have to drive that thing for 10 years to break even

Are used hybrids more than a same year Tahoe or Yukon or Escalade? They certainly do better for city driving but not so much on the highway, especially with the XFE option. However, the hybrids have a 6.0 and are much faster if that is important to the buyer.

The XFEs were and are sold as regular trucks, most probably won't ever notice the difference.

the XFE model had 1 extra MPG with the original/body.

you can pick up a very low mileage for 10,500 that is how much i paid Fully loaded 84,000miles

(missing heated wiper fluid, power peddles (imo they felt cheap and likely to break anyways) and power lift gate HY2..

the Ride Height is much lower at lest compared to that sub..
They took a loss at each one sold.(Warranty claims, transmission costs etc....) as the msrp was over $54,000
Basically your getting a LTZ trim with NAV touch screen Rear DVD system,heated seats (HY2 model) (20" wheels was available in the 08 year ) for 54k



most people are worried about replacement of the battery cost...


but I still have money left over from my budget 2k left
other wise I would have paid 17-18k for same mileage of 84k.. I'm very happy with the mpg i get in the city it's way better then my old car that only got 10-12MPG in the city...
19.5= 51.28 gallons = 1000 miles
10mpg (to be fair) =100 gallons = 1000 miles


it pays for it self that pay off time will take tell 154-159k miles on the clock (or slightly sooner if prices go up from 3.15 gallon )

Anything after that = profit



I save $154.79 per 1000 miles over my old car in the city.. that does not include maintenance costs since my old car was always taking a shit on me costing me big bux ...

in was in the shop more then me driving it seemed like

i bought it for 3800 i spent about 10k on it -900$ for insurance pay out /-250 refund from gm(oil leak fire recall) the yearly maintenance was $1200$year I only got 129k to 178k on it before it quit on me ( jb weld was holding the fluids in!) it was costing me 0.20 cents per mile just in maintenance.. and another 30 cent/ mile in fuel
