Hey guys, I am wanting to do the HD hood swap on my 2002 Tahoe LT.

Some questions of mine include:
- Does the year of the hood matter? For example would I need a HD hood off a 2002 since that’s what year my Tahoe is?
- What custom work would need to be done? Obviously paint if it wasn’t the right color, but would there have to be any fabrication work or will it just bolt on like a standard hood?
- Does it have to be a Chevy HD hood or would a GMC work?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

If I'm not mistaken, you need a 2000-2002 Silverado HD hood. That's the only hood that will work for a Tahoe. Other then messing with the alignment to get the gaps good, it's bolt and go. There's a sticky on here for the HD hood mod.

Actually, it will need to come from a 01-02 , not a 2000. In 99-2000, the HD trucks were simply a "2500" and had the same hood as a 1500 and a Tahoe/Burban. Then in 01-02 they no longer made a "2500". It was either a 1500HD, a 2500HD or a 3500HD, of which only the 25 and 3500's had the HD hood and grill. If it's a 99-00 2500 or if it's a 01-02 1500HD, then it has a regular 1500 hood.

Any of you boys know anyone willing to part out a hood for a reasonable price? It won't let me post in the classifieds to find one.

If you wanna get technical they never put out a "3500hd" gmt800. They're all just badged as 3500. Just a weird little bit of info.

OP try and find a junkyard one, and have it bodyworked. Best bet to find a decent one for not outrageous prices.

The hood you want is a coveted and hard to find item. It's going to take a bit more than posting in the classifieds on here.

Any recommendations on what I should do to find one? Sounds like you may have some experience.

Set your CL app to a radius that youre willing to drive for it (I did 150 miles), search for 'Silverado part", check it EVERY day, and be patient.

If your local yards have a way to check inventory online, do that too.

Craigslist, local yards, car-part.com, Facebook marketplace. Lots of patience. Remember these are over 15 years old at this point finding one, so finding one in good shape (no dents or rust) will be harder and harder. Since your truck is an 02, you might get really lucky and get one that is the right color (actually, the one I just got is dark gray).

If you are really desperate they do make aftermarket hoods, but they tend to be more expensive than the real thing (though they are new), and there have been reports of fitment issues.
