I got my truck a year ago at 112k miles since then my motor went out at 135k, dash desinigrated and I got a dash cap, carpet on driver floor came out so I put n a rubber Matt, backs came off of my front seats, back part of passenger side mirror fell off, door handle fell off, gas cap won't open unless I pry it open with keys, and bumper split n half on me. Man this is my favorite vehicle I've owned but the maintenance is like a BMW! I've read all over the forums seeing that these are common problems. But it seems like it's been hit by a rock instead of like a rock!

Here's more pics of the damage. Most of the truck has been repaired and I'm getting the rest handled n the shop right now. But I am on the prowl for good seat covers.

I don't think you got a lemon, I think you bought a used vehicle that had been beat to crap. Completely different... I hope you're able to get it all fixed relatively cheap

U could be right I was the 4th of 5th owner fortunately I found some body shops and interior shops that do good work cheap. Now i do know several other people personally that have lost door handles, lost seat backs, motors go out, and dashes crack so I'm sure those are pretty typical gm problems. Long as I don't need a transmission n next 3 months I'm good. Though Everyone been telling me 99-06 are the best years to own a Tahoe so maybe that'll be my next move.

Didn't the back bumped break because u have 30" rims and the tires rubbed and broke it? My guess is your hauling a trailer in that picture and it made the tires rub and rip that side panel off

Didn't the door handle and mirror cap break off from the bass? Subwoofers? I seen you over on the audio forum... once u get loud bass will break things and rattle everything loose.

You can't call it a "lemon" as it's had so many owners and is obviously well-used and even abused. The parts that have broken are common failure points when these things are handled roughly. Well, other than that back bumper thing. I don't know what to say about that other than agreeing with Nate that maybe the trailer caused the back to come down a little too far and the oversized wheel caught it. Kids yank outward and downward on the flimsy plastic door handles and they rest their feet on the seat back pockets which pulls the panels off, so that probably explains those issues. They're all relatively easy fixes, though. My '08 has 172,000 miles on it and it looks like it has maybe 30,000 miles of use. I'm the third owner. The original was some sort of professional that apparently didn't have kids, and judging by the nicks in the hanger hooks, I'd say they bought a full-sized 4-door SUV just to be able to hang their business suits in the back when they carry them to and from the dry cleaners. The second owner was the wife of the used car lot owner from where I bought it. So, it's all in how well it's taken care of. The rest of the issues are gonna happen no matter how well you care for it because they're design flaws. Mine has the cracked dash, broken motor mount and failing hatch lock assembly. Your motor going out so early was probably due to the AFM system failing, which could very well be from poor maintenance by the previous owners (irregular oil changes/cheap oil causing sludge buildup in sensitive AFM lifters).

As far as the '00-'06 generation, I believe they are all-around a better built vehicle. My opinion is that if reliability/longevity is more important to you than looks, then you'd be better-suited to get the older one. Just shop carefully for one that was cared for.

I do not buy any vehicle unless I see service records plus have a good independent mechanic check it out.. But that is just me.

The only 2 things that sucks from the 00-06 years are the torsion bar front suspension, and the old style steering box. Other than that, I still have my 05 and it doesn't give me any problems, and so far my 09 is equally solid.
