What do you TOW?

I haul my 4runner trail rig where ever i need to go it weighs in at roughly 5500.

How is everyone doing for mileage when towing?
I pull a smaller snowmobile trailer, not a lot of weight but a lot of wind resistance.
I go from 15 mpg to 7 mpg when towing. I can still set the cruise control at 75 mph and run, but it will be shifting and reving on every hill. I keep the speed down because of this, and often find my self driving by the tach instead of the speedo. Slowing down up a hill and really speeding up going down, keeping the same RPMs rather than MPHs.

From what I read the guys with the bigger motors don't lose as much when towing.

The tongue weight is high on this setup, but the auto-level still does a perfect job on my 83k 02.

Just got 2014 SSV to replace it, we'll see how it is with the 6 speed and losing the auto-level.

I have a 2002 suburban that I have towed 9000# (old camper) and 6500# (new camper) and get 8 to 9 mpg. It is tuned, e fans, intake and exhaust and also helper bags. It doesn't matter how I drive it I get 8 or 9 mpg.

Now with my 2010 XL Denali with auto ride everything matters. I did recently put helper bags on it but everything else is stock. And. When towing the 6500# camper at 65 I get 8 to 9 mpg if I even think about 70 I get 5 to 6 mpg.

The suburban has a 5.3 with 4 speed with 3.73 gears and the Denali has a 6.2 with 6 speed and 3.42 gears.

I pull our 3200 lb camper and my 6x12 enclosed trailer lowered 3.5" in front and 5" in rear with helper air bags.

I'm in South Carolina right now. Towed my 6400 32' camper(no gear, probably 7k with gear) here, got 10.5 mpg for the trip. Approximately 1200 miles, headed back in a week. No issues maintaining 65 mph the entire way, whether up the mountains or anything. With the cruise on it stays around 3k Rpms going up hills, 2k standard.

What model of the trucool did you install? I just got back from a 1000 mile trip through the mountains and my transmission got really hot going up grade.

I got the 40k. My trans temp went from an average of 217 to the highest I seen it was 165 and that is in Florida in July. A by product was that my engine temps also dropped about 15 degrees as well.

I just got back from towing my 3500lb popup trailer with my '15 YukonXL SLT and it's bucking and rough. The trailer is level, and I swapped out for a one piece drop hitch thinking the two piece had too much play. Minimal difference.

If we're on a smooth road going a consistent speed it feels fine. Acceleration or braking, or normal bumps in the road and we're bucking. Seriously stumped - I've had lots of Yukons and Tahoes pull this trailer with zero issues.
