Seems like that would have been 10x the seller as the Hybrid...and should have been cheaper to run, repair, good power, amazing torque ...etc and likely better fuel consumption(especially compared to the gas versions)... discuss...

Because the average American is stupid and thinks Diesels are bad. Gotta go with what your market is and what they want. Moms dont want one so they wont make it.

FORD is going to introduce a diesel into their 1/4 ton pickup next year. I would have figured Chevy to follow suit but since they are practically government owned and operated now, they will likely fail to compete

Diesels were available in the OBS (2dr's at least)... it would be fun to have a NNBS Duramax 4d though... A company called DuraBurb does conversions, here's a vid:

I would LOVE to have a diesel. You can pull very serious torque out of a little diesel and get great gas mileage.

I know a guy who had it done to a NNBS. Looked great, awesome power but it was never right. He dumped a ton of money into it and then ended up getting rid of it. There was a concept vehicle a couple years back for a duramax 2500 suburban, it had the silverado HD front end, it looked rugged.

My dad had an 02 Excursion with the 7.3, and it was, like stated above, the ultimate SUV. Towing capacity was phenominal, it moved that tank like a 1/2 ton chassis and it still would get 25 MPG untuned on the freeway.

The DuraBurb is a pretty sick conversion. Seems like they have made a huge effort in making it a reliable product, which is great!

For the OP. First of all, I believe GM doesnt put a duramax in the hoe's and Kons for a few reason. First of all, our trucks are on 1/2 ton chassis. The duramax and allison marriage is a hefty weight, not to mention the vibration for such small components. Say GM patch that theory. Then comes cost of the vehicle. Its like a $15000 option. GM did right by grabbing that "isuzu" motor and that allison tranny. It had a hell of a run. Ok, so lets say the cost is back down a bit. Then comes the modern day problem. SMOG. GM is turning loops right now as well as the other competitors trying to make sure these diesel motors are smogg-able. They need to burn cleaner and cooler. Extremely untypical of a diesel motor. GM now has a canaster that needs to be refilled at every oil change by the dealership that cost $65. The canister holds "lighter fluid", so that when the collector get full of soot in the exhaust, it heats up, shoots the fluid, and "cleanly" burns the soot.

LOL... that is just three reasons why they never put the Dura's in the hoes and Kons...

It was a 10k price tag on doing the conversion to the H2 I had and that was for the duramax and allison tranny, trust me I was mad with the sluggishness of it once I went over 37" tires and tried pulling a boat. I chose to go with a 5.3 Yukon vs a Denali to save on gas but the 5.3 is not as much as I thought it would be I should have just go the Denali.....

LOL, nearly every Powerstroke Excursion I've ever seen has had a rediculously huge lift on it. There used to be two here in Lubbock. One relocated his headlights into the bumper it was so tall.

Always agreed that GM should offer the D-Max on the Suburbans. I remember reading a story on it a couple years back, and I think the main issue with R&D wasn't so much the engine, but rather designing the Allison to fit the Suburban Platform properly.
