I have an 03 z71 and i get a humming/whistling sound when I get to around 40mph. Only hear it as I accelerate. If I take my foot off the gas the noise goes away, then comes back as I accelerate. I've done some research and some say it could be the carrier bearing, or a pinion bearing???? Does this sound accurate to anyone? Has anyone experienced this? Thank you

Does it clunk on/off the gas? Or no clunk and just whine? Does it do it in neutral at speed? Or just drive?

No clunk, just a whine. Doesn't do it in neutral only when I reach around 40mph during acceleration. If i let off of the pedal it stops, but then when I press on the gas again it starts. Its literally just during acceleration after reaching 35-40mph

Have you considered the possibility of the intake manifold?

I would have bet money that I had a failing bearing (and I'm a pretty accomplished shadetree mechanic). After nearly a year of that sound driving me crazy, I read another member's post about their intake manifold gasket possibly causing a similar sound. I replaced my intake manifold gaskets over the weekend and my ears are SO thankful. Plus my Yukon runs infinitely better!

My gf is complaining about the same issue. Do you need to have your window down to hear it? Or do you hear it with the windows up?

My 01 Tahoe has been doing the exact same thing as long as I’ve had it (1 and a half years). It starts around 40-50 mph, and then it starts doing it again at a higher pitch at around 70-80 mph. And mine only does it when I press the gas as well.

I have a simialar issue but I have diagnosed mine to be the front differential.

With front driveshaft out - whines on acceleration.

With front driveshaft in - whines on acceleration.

With front driveshaft in and vehicle in 4WD - no noises period.

My 2015 Tahoe LTZ had the same issue since day 1. The dealer drained and checked the rear differential and found no issues. They told me that it most likely was the tires. Now 2 years later I needed to replace the OEM tires, and the noise is gone!

My truck is only a 2WD and it makes the same humming when I press the gas as I said in an earlier post. I can put it in Neutral and the noise stops, even if I rev it up.

I wonder if your noise could possibly be the front pump in your transmission?

My transmission was rebuilt around a year ago. The noise was there before the rebuild and is still here after the rebuild. If I recall correctly the reason why my transmission broke in the first place was because the pump actually exploded. :(
