You may or may not recall that one of the things I mentioned early on, three years ago when I got this beast, was that the cruise control was not working. At least the dash indicator light was not coming on. I can't swear to it now, but I'm pretty sure I had tried to engage it with no response.

I don't drive distances enough to bother with it, so it never mattered.

I'm not really sure what prompted me to try it again today, but I did and it worked! No dash light, so that must be a lamp out. But the rest of it worked fine. Accelerated by itself uphill, slowed downhill. Acc/Res button worked also to adjust speed.

Oh well.

Maybe it was the ABS Speed sensor issue?

I don't think there is a dash indicator on our trucks. Cruise is all electronic, no vacum involved in the cruise itself.

The multifunction switch/turn signal stalk can be the source of many electrical gremlins on these OBS trucks. My cruise control started working again as soon as I replaced it. I think the wiring takes a beating from the repeated actuation of the signal stalk. Your wires may have found their happy place for now. As for the dash light, this is from my '97 owners manual:
