I got a message on the dash that said loose gas cap. My 08 Tahoe does not have a gas cap. Then a day later the CEL light came on for code p0455. I looked under the vehicle by the filler neck and saw this piece hanging. Looks like some sort of plug or filter, IDK.

Anybody know what is? Also where should I start first for code P0455?

That's the evap vent valve filter. Follow it down to the evap vent valve. The filters get plugged with dirt, especially when they're not mounted up high on the fuel filler tube. Use the forum's Search function to find posts with P0455 in them -- there are plenty with tips and solutions.

What sort of filler tube does it have, since there's no gas cap? Aftermarket?

It looks like your truck has been modified (if it is truly a 2008 and not a 2018 model year) to have a coverless/capless fuel tank filler. This was not stock, or even an available option, for the 2008 model year.

Clean out that hanging piece. I suggest that you fire up your shop vac and see what you can suck out of the vents in that piece. Once clean, zip tie it up near the top, where that other zip tie in your photo is, where it belongs.

and that air filter should be zip tied up inside the filler tube area to help prevent dust/dirt from getting in, so basically you can unbolt the filler tube, pull it down, zip tie the filter near the top and then stick it back up and bolt the filler tube back on.

Thanks, why would someone modify the fuel neck?

It's a Flex Fuel, not sure if that's the same as hybrid.
no, not the same thing. your cluster would be different and it would say hybrid and it would be badged as such, different front bumper, led tailights etc...

That looks like the capless fuel cap common on the K2 generation. Looks like this is not a 2008 but a 2018 unless someone retrofitted the newer capless system on an older truck. Agree - it would help to have a picture of the whole truck to confirm.

How about providing the year, make, and model and some history on the truck? How long have you owned it, how many miles on it, what's been done as far as maintenance, etc.?

he has a few post's all reference 2008, also you can see in the pic of the filler top there is a "click-lock" for the gas door the k2's do not have that, the door just opens/closes

i'm guessing it's a retro-fit, unless it's a non-u.s. model ??? maybe that's my next guess
maybe if it got imported somewhere they might have required the gas cap to be the capless type...
something like that is not unheard of
