Well I have a question for you guys. I have often wondered what I would do if my engine blew up. Say a person had $4000 scraped up what route would you take? Rebuild, crate, used 6.0...sell the truck ect..let's see what options we have.
Thanks RORy.

It depends on your level of mechanical ability ... $4000 for a 6 liter swap if someone else is doing the work will be a tight budget.

You could easily do a slightly used LQ4 6.0L swap for under $2000.00. Plenty have people have done them, the informations there for you to install it and its been done time and time again it really must be a decent engine!

I have thought about doing the 6.0/8.1 swap..but it looks like a *****. I do know what is involved and the wiring is over my head. Although LiftedLQ9 on GMFS who did the 5.3 swap on a older TBI Silverado lives like a half hour away from me so I would probably contact him for some help. I'm not counting out a well built crate engine that will put out some decent numbers though..

Not to go flying off topic, but the 8.1 swap is possible? I was under the impression it would not fit for some reason.

Why wouldn't it fit?? There's a dude on Performancetrucks.net with a 454 stuffed in a 95-99ish Tahoe. Those 8.1s came in Silverados and Avalanches, those also had the smaller 'std' LS series engines ... I don't see why it wouldn't bolt in. I'm not LS series expert ... nor a big block expert now that I think of it. LOL

Theres a dude on here MUDDERTRUCKER with a 454 in his.

I'd the 6.0 Swap Rory you are handy so I would do most of the installtion work cept all the wiring and running dual PCMS along with the 411 swap.

So there is a 6.0 and a 6.2 correct? The Denali truck has the 6.2 and it's a 407hp how much is the 6.0 rated at? Anybody know?

You're right, there was a 6.2 and 6.5 TD in the OBS lineup. There's a 6.2 gas option in the NBS lineup.

I would totally go 6.0 before going 383. Buy a low mileage used one and do it yourself with alot of research. I would put a good portion of that money towards a good transmission rebuild/upgrade as well.

OK, so my engine might be done so I'm thinking the same thing. What's the benefit vs cost of the 6.0 over a 383 or something?
