Guys, just out of curiosity ... is there no aftermarket mirror lens for NBS mirrors that emulates the NNBS lenses with the leds already in them?

Cause if not that's a business startup idea right there. :)

Yeah. Its factory on mine. I think its a year thing.

So why not do that instead of messing around with loose led strips?
Is it a price issue?
Cause I'd guess that oem is always cleaner looking no?

The newer nbs have them. In order to use them with older nbs, the leds need to be ran to the blinkers.

True ... but doesn't one have to do that anyway with the loose led strips?

Btw Chris I actually really like the led mod you did ... I'm asking only out of curiosity. :)

Yes. I guess this is a more unique looking led blinker mod than just the arrow. Alot cheaper too.

The mod only cost about $10 bucks, had to purchase the led strips (1.23/each and I bought 4 of them) and had to buy some 3M double sided sticky tape with was about 5 bucks, ran 2 runs of wiring from the drivers side of the dash to each door (already had the wire so it cost nothing) and then some electrical connections that I already had!!
The cool thing is since I already ran the power blinker wire to each mirror, all i would need is to get a hold of the mirror lens with the blinkers in them and then just wire them up!! I did the mod because of how cheap and easy it was, just can't justify buying lens with the blinkers in it at this time so this works for me!

Like I said I like it ... i just always try to glean the reasons different folks approach the same mod in different ways. It helps my own imagination.

Yeah I looked into it and couldn't find both mirrors for less than $200. The $10-$20 mod becomes a LOT more appealing. I'm kinda curious to see what it would look like to put the LEDs completely around the mirror and have the entire thing have light coming around it. Maybe it would look like crap... I don't know.

Try it out and see if you like it. Looks like you have plenty of time to tinker around. ;)

I think it would look even better if it would go all around the mirror. But that's just my opinion.

Exactly, that's why I haven't gotten a set of mirrors yet for my truck, just can't rationalize it at this point!! As for the LED's all around, I thought about it but decided to just do what I did!! For the most part, I think you could go all of the way around except for where the mirror pivots on the mount, but if you moved the led's out then I think it would work but you would lose some of the the mirror lens movement!! You can find very cheap LED strips on Ebay, that's where I got mine, buy yourself some and see what you come up with!! I'd be interested in seeing someone elses install and compare it to mine, might buy more led's for mine if I like it better!

Hmm. This would be REALLY easy for me, then, since I have the built-in OEM LED's. I'd just have to tap the wires already in the mirrors....

I may just have to do this. At that price point, it's hard to resist and I need a cheap project.

Chris, where'd you get the LED strips?? (and how easy is it to remove the mirror? I just realized I have no idea how you do that part....)

Wait, NBS mirror lenses cost $200?

You can get an entire set of NNBS mirror assemblies for that much.
Heck, that's what I paid for my Esky mirrors.

Yikes you guys are right ... on ebay they sell for around $100 a lens.
Crazy, I would have thought these things could be easily found in junkyards and the like for next to nothing.
Unbelievable that two glass lenses would cost as much as newer escalade mirrors. :whymewhyme:

Yes Scott, since you already have the signals in the mirrors, the mod would be super easy for you since you wouldn't have to run a power wire from the dash!! Pm'ed you with the rest of the info you are after!

That's the exact reason why I haven't gone that route, not about to spend that kind of mad money on something like that! Painful to even think about!! :)

IMHO the strips hidden are better plus you can put the small round Morris in w/o interfering with the arrows also it's hidden ...pretty sickk..
Anyways....
I changed my oil today got 111700 miles and I'm using castrol high mileage oil...

Thanks for the PM, Chris....

I fiddled with the adjustment on my fog lights. That's all I did. Woooo.

I need to change to my winter tires. I'm still running on my Cooper LTZ's, which have done superbly in snow but kinda suck on glare ice....
