Just curious Sam--why would you want to use the "buck" unit if just for charging stuff?

Well, the phones expect 5v typically. Some won’t charge with 12v. It may even be harmful to the phone if it does work. I just know my charger at home supplies 5v DC @ either 2, or 4-5 amps, so try to match that in the vehicle.

Tony's specs are 12v in, so it's regulating down to 5v internally.

That’s what I did, but bought non LED version because power port is constant 12v. LEDs will be on 24/7.

There is no way the LED rings stays on 24/7. That's just poor engineering and product design even for such a low cost item. But I'm thinking about ordering the QC 3.0 version.

I bought one that I didn’t know had led, and when hooked up to my bench 12v power supply it was always lit. Since both the power port and the cigarette lighter in our NBS are 12v constant power it would stay lit up. Poor engineering by GM if you asked me. I’ve seen other cars where power ports are 12v accessory, not constant. Makes more sense to me. Nothing to do with the usb led plug.

I thought I remember seeing an led one that had a switch built in where u could turn power off and on, but I didn’t want to have to remember to cut it on and off.
