Hi All,

great forum! I have an 08 yukon XL with 54K miles. Love the truck, HATE the quality (or should i say lack of?)

Please help. I sold my 02 Ford Excursion with 200K miles and didn't like the Expedtion. Decided after 15 years of no GM products to try again. In 18 months of ownership it's been to the dealer 6 times for noisy / grinding rear end, bad / thin paint and a couple other annoying problems. I guess I was used to my Excursion and other Fords I've owned and the last 13 Honda's we've owned where you visit the dealer to see the new cars or maybe have an oil change done. I like my service advisor but don't like the fact we now know each other so good!

By the way, after having them work on the rear 3 times i still have the noises. I think I'll just learn to live with it!!!

Now my big problem. A couple weeks ago my check engine light came on. Took it to the dealer. Some solenoid in the emmissions system went bad as water got into it. They replaced it and some tube or something (sorry I'm in Vegas for work and the papers are in my truck at the airport) that is a "new redesigned part" to keep the water from getting into the solenoid and messing it up again. The problem is the dealer submitted the charges, around $200, and GM denied it. They than submitted it on my GMPP extended warranty but I have a $200 deductible so it doesn't really help.

I discussed it with my service advisor and he recommended calling the GM 800customer service number and gave it to me. he said he was shocked it wasn't approved. I called and spoke to someone there last week. They took the details, gave me a case # and said they would investigate. Today they called me back and said they did their investigation and would not cover it. It was out of warranty. I told them that i didn't agree, it was an emmissions problem not a powertrain warranty issue AND it was a defective tube or part that allowed the water to get into the solenoid. It was a poor design and they admitted it by putting a new redesigned part on it. The lady, from India, (explain to me why we bail GM out and they have a service center in India fielding our calls???), said they were not going to cover it. I asked for the next step up or her manager. She told me she was as high as it would get and her manager would tell me the same thing. I let her know that I buy about 15 cars per year for my business and this would be the last GM i would ever buy. She didn't seem to care.

I've already asked my service advisor to get me someone else at GM, preferably in the US that I can talk to.

What should I do? I love this truck and was already starting to look at the 2010 Denail or Esky and $200 is no big deal but it's the prinicipal. At this point I would go back to Ford or look at the imports. Why should I pay for a problem caused by a bad designed part?

Maybe I'm wrong but please tell me what to do.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for letting me vent and your advice.

Mike

Seems weird they wouldn't cover the part but I'd chalk it up to the game and move forward. I've had a dozen gm trucks with over 100k and never had an issue besides steering replacement and two transmissions which I consider my fault as much as GM. Have a buddy who went through bmws, few range rovers, and finally bought an 07 escalade...hasn't been to the dealer other than an oil change. Hope it all works out for ya, we're here to help if we can but it seems like this issue is best resolved by contacting another 800 number or paying the $200.

Have your service advisor get in touch with his regional field representative and set up a meeting with him and your dealer service advisor and yourself...I have had transmissions waranteed when the vehicles warantee has expired...Good Luck...also being a emissions device I believe that they have no choice but to cover it.

Don't feel bad...

500 miles = complete transmission reseal

8500 miles = autostart stopped working
8600 miles = passenger window stopped working
9000 miles = rear main engine seal leaking

9001 miles = traded in, bought a Toyota. Fixed. bought for 32,000 traded in for 32,500. Got a nice check in my pocket and no more GM headaches. I still linger here because the trucks look good so I just look from afar now. Ford will be in the future, GM is finito for me. They just look purdy.

i think the most important thing is to stay away from dealerships. they will cost you. they will replace things that are fine and you will still end up with the problem. you can show a dealership 1 problem and they will fix 10 or 15 other problems that wernt actually probems. they make money off of people that dont know better. rear ends arnt confusing im in highschool and have rebuilt one and it worked perfect. you need to reconsidder your mechanic. i love chevys and im honest they arnt good at tranys but over all they are good cars if taken care of. also heavily reasearch the problem before you take it to a mechanic so you can sound like you know what your talking about it will ***** them from trying to rip you off. i had a budy get his spider gears replaced and he went up there and said its making a wierd noise or something and didnt know what he was talking about and they charged him close to 700 bucks for something that doesnt take 45 minutes to do.

I drove an 08 tahoe for 2 weeks while my truck was in the shop. I didn't really care for it since it was brand new at the time...the DOD started to jerk when it would turn on and off.. the remote start made a sound like a transformer blowing up one time and rode terrible.. luckily it was a rental, but I know that truck has a shitload of problems by now.

GMPP warranties suck and I will never buy one again. They treat you like you bought the warranty off the street or something. My GTO is going through it's share of problems with some serious backlash issues that GMPP will not cover. They offered to replace the rear sagging springs though with a new set that will surely sag in a year. Rotors warped with less than 10k miles on it...not covered...radius rod bushing failure...not covered.. You can fight it, but eventually its not cost effective and the only person that learns the lesson is you.

I would think emission items are covered up to 100k so this shouldn't be questioned.

go on the other forums ford toyota nissan, whoever.. they all have their share of problems.. sometimes a design flaw magnifies a particular item (like theToyota's cams/engine problems or Ford's Torque converters in their super duty diesels) but it is what it is.. My TBSS went through three water pumps in 2k miles (know it has 15k after 4 yrs).. they changed the design and it never happened again, the driver's seat motor that raises the rear of the bottom cushion died 6mos ago, the passenger front window goes up reaaal slow (always has) and the radio turns on and off whenever it wants (since new) and resets.. come to think of it? my passenger mirror freaks out in reverse when it pans down it keeps clicking like it's stuck?

You know what these GM trucks ARE PIECES OF SHIT lol...

send a letter to GM Regional rep and describe the number of vehicles GM just lost out on and remind him this $200 fix cost GM thousand in profit..

Let me preface by saying that I have always been a GM loyalist. However, the last time I went to purchase a new vehicle, I didnt go the route of GM. I purchased my tundra (actually 2 of them) and have never looked back.

Tony mentions the little issues that all models have, and he is correct. The difference is how the manufacturer addresses those issues. Toyota had a few camshaft problems early on in the tundras, and you know what? - they replaced every engine in every truck that had the defective casting BEFORE THE ISSUES WERE NOTICED BY THE OWNER. I have had minor issues with my Tundra, but they were all just that - minor. For the most part, I didnt even want to take it to the dealer to get a vent that wouldnt stay in place fixed. Now, Toyota is getting a bad wrap because some dumb ass stacked 2 floor mats on top of each other. But you know what? - they are making it right to the customers that these issues dont happen again.

That being said, I went through other MAJOR issues on my Chevy's. Of the first year that I owned my TBSS, it was in the shop for over a month, sitting and waiting on parts. 1 year end, 2 transmissions, 1 radiator. My tahoe prior to that dumped a tranny shortly after I bought it used.

I took a gamble on my wife's current tahoe. I bought it used instead of new, and replaced her Tundra for a people hauler. I am hoping that I dont have the same issues that I had with my other Chevy's, especially issues that are questionable as to whether GM can sack up and do the right thing to its customers, because, quite honestly, they wont. If I have issues beyond what are reasonable with this Tahoe, I can honestly say this will be my last GM vehicle I own until they get their shit together.
