Okay well here it goes I am having an issue with my viper alarm starter combo when arming it shows door open and will not arm the system. The doors are all closed also the factory alarm honks the horn also the system is being installed by Geek Squad not myself they have suggested a differnt system by NuStart. I have the same unit (viper) in my 04 sierra and it works fine so I don't know what the problem is and why they can't get it working any help would be great thanks in advance.

The 5901 is a reputable unit.

I would have geek squad return the truck to stock, get my money back, and take it to someone qualified to install it.

I know u are seeking help with this particular install, but unless you can post up which wires geek squad connected to, its anyone guess as to what is wrong.

The unit was installed by the dealer that sold it to me and who told me that the wire that is connected to the dome light is causing the issue due to the auto dim delay feature making the unit think the door is open. My 04 yukon xl is the same as my 04 sierra with the same unit but they can't get the yukon system to function correctly just hoping someone here may have encounted the same trouble.

I have this, except mine tells me my door is open after it locks the truck. I have also been told that the system is hooked up to the interior lights, so if they are on it thinks the door is open.
You may ask them to have it lock then tell you what is open.(hood, door or trunk)

The installer as said it either shows trunk or door open once it will be door then next time trunk. I was wondering if the wires to the factory alarm door lock /unlock need to be cut or disconnected?

The problem is that whoever installed the system was lazy and used the dome light for door trigger.

What they should have done was used the door trigger output from your bypass module for the front 2 doors, and used the BCM purple plug for the 2 rear doors.

The problem with doing it the right way is that it requires extra wiring and diode isolation of all 4 doors, and most installers do not want to go that extra mile. I wonder if they also didn't hook up the actual trunk trigger to the trunk input on the 5901. If they used dome light for everything, than the 5901 trigger reports won't even work correctly.

Try this...push in your dome override button see if that bypasses your problem. If it does, than the correct solution would be to rewire it the way I described.

If you do not care about the trigger reports (5901 telling you which zone was violated) and you typically never leave your dome override button pushed in, than go to the Convenience menu (Menu 2 on the 5901) and set #4 Door Trigger Error Chirp to "OFF".
