Upgrade bose sub?

Can you buy install a new sub and replace the old bose?

Yes you can, but depending on your year, where it is. If its in the rear, they make a box for it, well for the center console one also they make a box. Dont have either one, but yeah you can. Its like a 8".

04, center console. Is the box for the center just a replacement for the one already there, or do you have to modify the console housing, etc.

If you just do a google search on mtx or jl i think makes one, for the console sub. Search for your year, so its the console sub, (cant think of the name of what they are called right now, thunderform boxes, something like that) They are premade boxes and i think a little mod is needed, but not much if im right. They fit under your current console, basically where the bose is now. Just take out the bose and put this box in.
There is a thread on here somewhere, cant remember all about it and also, just replacing the bose sub.

JL makes "stealthbox" boxes but Its really year and option dependant(interior colors). I dissassembled my center console and removed the stock bose and replaced it with a JL 6w3v3 sub(custom enclosure). The ported box that the stock bose sub is mounted in, is screwed to the underside of the center console. Hope that helps

This will fit your tahoe. You have to do a little trimming but you'd never know it was there afterwards...till you hear it!

So is this just a replacement or do you need to add an amp? I see some of them come with an amp already does it just plug into the factory (i'm assuming) harness under there?

@SQNALI Is there a dramatic difference when you replaced the factory Bose sub with the JL? Is the bass deeper/tighter?

This question, or some form of it, is asked so often here and on the other chevy/gmc forums that there should be a sticky with all the facts and maybe a how to on doing it.
