Trunk hatch slow to open

I have a 2011 Tahoe. No auto rear hatch. When I open the trunk it's very slow to open and doesn't go all the way up without assistance. I'm thinking the struts are bad. Anyone have experience with this? Pretty easy swap for new ones? Is there service I should do on the existing ones that may help before I replace them? Any input is helpful. Thanks in advance.

Figured that was the case. Worth it to by aftermarket, or stick to oem?

I bought these on Amazon 3 years ago and still going strong. No need for OEM imo.
