IFF your vehicle totally avoids the winter, you CAN bypass the radiator's ATF heat exchanger - it's NOT a cooler.
In winter it helps warm up the ATF quicker, but it's not needed the rest of the year.

A more clever solution: valve it off, so you decide when to use the radiator's ATF heat exchanger, or when not to.

Replace this pipe if you have it

And enjoy 25-30 degree drop in trans temps, my 16 Silverado and 18 Yukon Denali both with the 10L80E rarely go over 160 trans temps here in Houston while beating the snot out of them both. When cruising I see 145-150ish.

Trans cooler is the way to go. I paid like 90$ for mine at oreilly’s and it was super easy to install. Pulled a 6500 lb trailer on a 6 hour drive and trans temps never got above 187 in the 98 degree weather. I also have a sure cool transmission bypass and the standard 208 engine thermostat. Pulled it up 8-9% grades. Before I installed the bypass and cooler there is no way I could have made that trip. Before then if I pulled my 2500lb boat trans temps would get up to 250 and I would have to pull over and let it cool down.

I'm interested in doing this. My transmission runs kinda cool, but does see 212+ on really hot days, and I don't like it.

What does replacing the pipe achieve, technically? I have that pipe in pic #1. If I replace the pipe with the one you are showing, won't I have to plug up the original hole/holes on the radiator? Forgot to mention that I live in the DC area, so sometimes winters CAN be cold. Will this be an issue if I bypass the radiator entirely?

I think this is the part my truck has. It's a 2019 Cadillac Escalade ESV.

below 200 before transmission thermostat swap.
below 160 after swap.

haven't swapped the pipe/hose from cooler to radiator.

not much towing just hauling family & commutes..

We tow a 5400lb trailer with 2021 Yukon Denali 6.2L/10s - does not have the tow package, but we added a Curtis brake controller. Typically the trans runs 180s while towing up/down mountain highways but even at 107F ambient going up a 6%, 10mile mountain grade the highest we ever reached was 200F.

However..... This summer we were doing 5-8mph on bumpy gravel road going up the mountain ~9miles to a campground (maybe 2000ft elevation climb over 9 miles) and it was only 90F outside but 'what the heck' I saw it creeping up to 205-210 range. Surprised me.

At 5-8mph there's no air flow.. but surprised me as this is higher than the 200F on hot day at 60mph. And, this was not 'straining' the rig - just 1st gear creeping along.

Lack of airflow on roads like that is why I ventilated my hood. Convection works too.
